I was prepared to go at 25, but it turned out to be too expensive.

I decided that I did not want to pay all that money to see people I haven't even stayed in touch with for free. talk to the hand

nod My 10 year one was held two years ago and I skipped it for the exact reason you stated above.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I haven't been to any of my high school reunions. I thought about how I would go back to to my 10 year reunion back when I was fresh out of college, but over time I lost contact with my friends from high school and realized I didn't want to hook up with people who made my life miserable when I was in school. The fact I'm not on Facebook either probably makes my classmates think I'm either dead or MIA. There are maybe a few people I might be interested in contacting from my high school days (like my ex-girlfriend) but not enough to go looking for them on Facebook or Google.

Been 2 the 10, 20 and missed the 25. My 30th is next month. I will be there.

Had a great time at both. What struck me the most was the woman that were not so pretty in H.S. were gorgeous and the fine ones from highschool were jacked up and worn out.

That was interesting.

Exactly!!!! That's the way it was for me too. I wonder why that seems to be true at everyone's reunion.

Never been to a HS reunion, but I've heard this a lot from other people too.

Having been more the mousy type and "nerd" in HS, I'd have to say that boys in HS lacked imagination. There could be a very pretty girl right in front of you, but you don't see her because she's not wearing the right clothes or has glasses or braces or she's not the typical beauty. The "pretty" ones in HS were really the "looser" ones who dressed more provocatively and wore lots of make-up and acted like you couldn't get them. Of course many of them get jacked up and worn out.

I experienced a "transformation" in college, and when I've ran into a few people from HS over the years in my 20s and my 30s, yeah they're "surprised."

My 20 year is coming up in Sept. I kind of don't want to go. Everyone is going to be talking about their husbands/wives and kids - and I don't have either. They'll be talking about their careers and I just took a year break from working.

What am I going to tell people about me? Uh... I have a dog and I'm on the org. neutral

Anyways everyone is on facebook, so it's not like anything is going to be a big surprise.

Yeah - I was kind of whining.

I need to look at it like you do - that it will be a fun time to get together with people that I haven't seen in a while.

Went to my 10 and pretty much didn't speak to anyone that was there between it and time for the 20. So I said fuck'em and didn't go to it.

The funny thing is that I'm not even that impressive as a traveler. I haven't really been to that many places (like your continent) and I certainly don't have any life-changing moments when I'm abroad. But you're right - I guess I have things to talk about.

I was kind of hoping that my reunion was going to be scheduled before I got back to the States, so I could say - "Sorry I can't be there, because I'm in [fill in foreign country here]." lol I'm such a dork!

What do I have in common with my school associates?

Kids? No!

Married? No!

40inch TV? No!

Being content? No!

Would I attend a high school reunion? No!

I hated high school and everyone there.

Isn't the point really to see everyone, find out if who got married, who came out as gay, who lost their hair and who got fat?

fishslap

You just traveled all over the world.

Half of us have rarely ever left our state/province in our boring lives.

You don't need a "life-changing" experience to be able to say; "yeah I was in Argentina and did the tango and sipped on yerba mate under the moonlight."

Mine was, errr, average, I guess. I think it was around 100, but it was people from age 17-43. I think it was 43 - I know there was a couple people in their early 40s. I went to a school that allowed me to do independent study and still get a diploma (instead of a GED), but they also did adult ed, S.A.M., continuation learning, special needs, etc. So my "graduating class" was all different sorts of people.

That's how I got my diploma, too!

I went to the regular public high school until I turned 18 in the middle of my senior year, then dropped out and went to the Adult Ed diploma program. You had to be 18, otherwise I'd have done it at 17 like you did. I couldn't get out of school fast enough.

It wasn't a nightmare. I wasn't bullied or anything, I just couldn't stand it. I hated the authority figures, the fake people, the schoolwork, etc. I was going through a lot of hell in my personal life, and school just seemed so fucking stupid and irrelevant to me.

Mine wasn't a nightmare either; I was considered a "popular" girl, I was on the varsity basketball team, I had excellent grades. I was even nominated for Homecoming Queen rolleyes much to my dismay. The main reason I hated it was that I did not like the school we had to join with my senior year. Some of their teachers took over classes from our teachers and they weren't as good. I felt like the academics were being dumbed down for their student body. I also got in trouble a lot with all the teachers. (My mom, even though she was furious with me about it, always told the school it was because I was bored with the work and needed more of a challenge to keep me busy.)

On top of that my "friends" were not nice people to be around (but since my high school was so tiny, they would make your life hell if they disliked you). I still have insecurities because of the mean things they would say to me about the way I looked, walked, dressed, etc. Girls are vicious. I couldn't wait to get away from all of it: my "friends", the stupid teachers, the close-minded busy-bodies in my small town. Ugh.

.

oh...I didn't care for most of the teachers or authority figures either....I just did enough to get by and the rest was hanging out/ partying related. I mean, HS was a piece of cake compared to grown up stuff. I kinda loved pissing off the teachers! smile

Pretty much the definition of why I went on independent study. nod I knew I needed to finish, but I had zero interest in all the bullshit involved with going to school everyday.
