When family members piss you off

As the saying goes, you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. So when certain family members disappoint you or piss you off, how do you handle it? It's clear that they won't change, and more than likely, it won't be the last disappointment or the last time they will piss you off, so what do you do?

I sometimes just distance myself for a while. If there's a family function, I won't stay for too long to avoid getting irritated or annoyed. And that's just being nice. When I'm really ticked off, then I just stay away period. You won't see me around for a minute and I just live my life.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

My ex's sister has pissed me off so bad, that I no longer want to have anything to do with her ever again 'til my dying day.

Is she considered "family"?

Anyway, better to just stay away and pretend they don't exist.

Hmm, well since you are now divorced, you thankfully don't have to really deal with your ex's sister anymore anyway right?

Another thing that irks me is when certain family members love to ask you if you have met someone new or if you have a new prospect that you are dating...as if being single is such a terrible thing. Or that something is wrong with you if you aren't dating anyone. rolleyes Then for them to voluntarily say things like "oh don't worry, you'll meet someone soon" or "are you putting yourself out there?" Umm excuse the fuck out of you, but having a signifcant other in my life doesn't define me or my happiness, so just leave me the fuck alone and tend to your own business.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I have only my older brother left, so I try to keep things on a even keel. We get along well, but when he does piss me off, I will cuss his ass out and keep it moving. I will distance myself, not call him or email him for a few weeks, but I could never just outright disown him or dessert him because he's the only "blood" I have left, and we've always been very close because it was just us two kids and mommy and daddy. We lost our mom in November, and it would haunt her spirit if we fell out permanently. She lived for us, and we were pretty much all she had left as far as family.

We have real estate to liquidate.

Long story.

It's when the chips are down that you REALLY find out what the people who you once trusted and considered "family" are truly like.
