I felt Kevin looked too obviously evil. For a bit, I thought maybe that's just how he appears to his mother and to everyone else, he looks like a normal child/teen--which would have been interesting if that angle was made more explicit visually, having two different-looking Kevins depending on which person was talking to him. I still gave the movie the same rating you did: 3.5/5.

Right, that’s what I felt as well. Kevin’s a bad seed, mentally ill, a troubled kid right from the time he came off the assembly line. To me, that seemed so apparent from our perspective that it made it a little unbelievable that the dad could not see it, or that so many people would hold the mother accountable. Still an interesting & recommendable movie though.

I made the mistake of going to see Prometheus instead of Moonrise Kingdom this week. I felt a little obligated to go because seeing Alien when I was 11 or so was one of my formative movie experiences. I walked out of Prometheus disappointed and a little irritated, and the more I’ve thought about it the more I’ve come to hate it.

I had my biases coming into the film. I knew I hated the premise of ancient astronauts as creators of mankind. I don’t think that’s hard science fiction. I think that’s an infantile fantasy. Wouldn’t it have been so much more interesting to visit a world where Xenomorphs evolved and find out how they exist in their natural habitat, and what kind of ecosystem could co-exist with such a life-form? Personally I think there’s far more interesting a story in aliens as an evolved species than the presentation of the aliens as an unintended (or intended? Do they explain that?) consequence of biological weapon production. But that’s the movie Ridley Scott wanted to make, and I could have put my own preferences aside if the movie was a little compelling. Prometheus is all cookie-cutter plot points and some of the most wooden expository dialogue I’ve heard in a movie.

And I realize science is going to be presented softly in most movies, but why present the scientists as such clichéd characters who display no rational precision or apparent interest in being on an alien planet with actual alien life forms on it, acting without protocol or any kind of informed intelligence? Why finance a trillion dollar mission and staff it with a biologist and geologist who, when presented with an alien world and alien corpses, decide they want to run away like frightened little girls? Why would the lead scientist, upon finding out that he’s apparently infected with an alien organism, be too afraid to tell anyone, in particular the co-lead scientist he apparently loves and may have just infected? And, if the engineers planted the seed of life on Earth (when? 4 billion years ago? 500 million years ago? Who can tell?), why is their DNA apparently identical to ours? They used their DNA to plant their seed on an apparently lifeless world, yet we’ve evolved to be identical to them? No recombination, no genetic drift, no mutation and millions of years of natural selection?

In conclusion: screw you, Prometheus, you stupid, grey, dreary, elephant’s left testicle of a movie. 1/5 for the nice visuals and Michael Fassbender.

That review was a great read. Thanks. lol

This has to be the worst movie ever made. The editing is so bad that at the end of one scene you hear the director say "cut". Even after that, they keep on filming for at least a couple seconds.

The packaging looks professional but the movie is straight ghetto made. The Rapper Mia X is in it.

Thank you.

And I forgot to mention the most painful, idiotic moment of the film!

The co-lead scientist, when questioned on why she’s discounting ‘darwinism’ (and I think Scott and/or the screen-writer are showing their hand by using that term – why use that loaded term instead of stating it the way a scientist would IE biology or evolution), responds that ‘it’s what I choose to believe.’ Naturally, because no scientist would ever respond to a fellow scientist by providing the best available evidence or using a logical argument. They always upend scientific orthodoxy on the basis of their feelings.

Sunshine cleaning 4/5
Neat little movie, not too saccharine, great leads and a child actor who had an awesome face love not the cookie cutter blonde model type with the husky voice
yawn
Also nice to see a movie set somewhere else other than LA or New York for a change.

The fast and the furious: Tokyo Drift 1/5
and that's only because Caleb Temple is in it but he doesn't wear a striped shirt pout
I'm the mistake you wanna make

21 Jump Street 2/5 --A couple laughs. Ice Cube cracked me up the most, and he had a pretty small role.

The Big Year 4/5 --Three avid birders compete to see the most species in one year. Stars Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson. Nice little movie

I think you might. We didn't quite get to the end, so I am hoping they don't die tragically, but rather that someone triumphantly sees lots of birds

This movie sucked ass. There used to be a time when I think I laughed at his movies. Now I think the only person that finds his humor funny is him and whoever produces this crap.

I agree. Adam is the producer of this movie, and I think him twice in same movie was a bit too much, Robert was great and a highlight. I like Sandler's movie, and I think I watched all of them. This is not his best movie.

Ted 3.5/5

The shape of Mila Kunis head bothered me, other than that good flick!

I love Family Guy, if you don't your probably won't like this so much.

John's mother in the beginning is the actress who plays Lois Griffin

Hysteria 4/5

Very entertaining.

Not sure how I'd rate it if my tickets hadn't been free. Rupert Everett virtually unrecognizable these days, and Hugh Dancey looks better onscreen than in real life I reckon.

It Might Get Loud (2008) - A documentary on the electric guitar from the point of view of three significant rock musicians: the Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White.

Seeing all three guitarists play together on U2's "I Will Follow" brought a tear to my eye. star star star star

3.5/5 Since I don't know much about Russian history I missed a lot of the visual queues which left me confused, but the art and the costumes and the different scenes kept me interested until I got to the end which is when the whole concept clicked into place to me, so I watched it again. I still can't believe it was shot in one continuous 90min shot that's pretty awesome in itself. Now I want to go to the Hermitage Museum.

This film is completely forgotten about now. Rather odd film. Famous director, fantastic sets (and real sets too, not that cgi shite), yet the story and script are so poor LOL. Robin Williams is Ok as Popeye and it's tough to get the original voice right (like Donald Duck), but Shelly Duvall was great though. She had Olive Oil down perfectly.

Oh, and most of the songs by Harry Nilsson were rubbish too. I did like the slapstick though, and the ending was funny. Otherwise a rather odd and perculiar family film...

I watched this recently. I like the songs, and I like the look. Some of it was cute.

The big problem is with the sound. It is really hard to understand Robin Williams, and not just because of how he is talking. They could have made his voice sound clearer. For some reason all of the audio has a very detached quality. It's weird, and makes it really hard to enjoy.

7/10

I liked it. From what I can remember, I liked it better than the previous ones.

I saw it on Tuesday.

I'd give it a star star star 1/2 out of 5.

It was good, but full of cheesy cliches that irked me. POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!

- Flash is bullying a nerd, and pre-bite Peter Parker comes along and tries to stop it using (I guess) the power of his VOICE since he was wholly unprepared (and not even expecting it apparently) when Flash began pummeling him. With his precious camera around his neck even.

rolleyes

- His crush just HAPPENS to work as a high-level assistant (WTF? Isn't she in HIGH SCHOOL???) to the nefarious scientist who becomes the villain.

rolleyes

- Uncle Ben dies when the thief that Peter gives a pass to happens to RUN INTO HIM on the street...and uncle Ben apparently thought his old ass could out-wrestle an armed thug? And he gets shot. Geez...really?

rolleyes

I'm not going to go into ALL of them, but there were enough to make me roll my eyes a few times. Biggest one of all? The actual SPIDER BITE scene itself.

rolleyes disbelief

HOWEVER, I did like the way that they showed him getting used to his new powers. nod

I liked the fact that they have him using wrist web slingers. nod

I liked the way that his fight against the Lizard included funny one-liners the way that the comic books did. nod

I would see it again with the kids. nod

Yeah it's really not a good kids movie. I don't know what the intent was, really. I think they were all insanely high during the making of it.

But actually the old Popeye cartoons are pretty weird too
