Do you work out? Yes

What exactly do you do? I lift weights, bicycle, walk, I use various dvds at home, and I'm trying to get myself to run lol

How often do you do it? I lift 2-3 times a week and I try to do cardio at least every other day.

Where do you do it? Gym, home, park

Why do you do it? To feel and look better. I lost a lot of strength when I was ill and was pretty much immobile. I needed to build it all back up again and I feel like I'm better than I ever was health-wise now.

Do you think it is time well spent/invested or do you often wonder whether it's "worth it"? It is completely worth it to me.

I forget what it's called...typically you squeeze a lever and the lawnmower's wheels start spinning...it's been ages since I've mowed a lawn.

Actually, I decided to take my work-outs up a notch or two a couple of weeks ago. I was feeling slightly depressed and tired of life, so I thought sports might help. I just wanted to know how much you other orgers did, and, based on how happy you seem to be, follow suit. smile

Thanks for the participation so far!

The endorphins are supposed to kick in after a while...but I can't say that I've personally experienced that "gym rush" that people talk about.

We'll see... But I think this is much more about me showing myself that I still have hope in my life and that I still believe in the possibility of being happy and content, which is probably more important than any short-lived "gym rush".

I can honestly say how much exercise I get directly impacts my mood and overall well being.

Over the years I have learned there is a very close correlation to my physical health and my mental health and I always feel and perform better when I'm taking care of my body with eating healthy and exercising.

For years I considered my body just something I lived in, like a house. Now I know that my body is me and I am it - it's all one entity.

I've certainly attained the "runner's high" and "gym rush" but that's not even what it's about for me. I know my overall outlook on life and how I go about my days is dramtically better when I'm taking care of myself.

I workout 4 times a week for an hour each day. I find that when I workout I tend to stay more focused one eating healthy as well. I haven't worked out for about a week due to my fall a week ago, I still feel a little light headed but I so want to go back already! I miss working out, it makes me feel so good!

Do you work out? Yes

What exactly do you do? Right now, mostly cardio. I'm addicted to this elliptical glider type machine at my gym that burns a lot of calories in as little as 10 minutes.

How often do you do it? I try to get to the gym at least 3 times a week, but in the past month, I've been getting there at least once a week which I know is not good.

Where do you do it? The gym.

Why do you do it? To lose weight, to release stress and to increase energy and my metabolism.

Do you think it is time well spent/invested or do you often wonder whether it's "worth it"? Yes I believe it's very much worth it. So far I've lost 26 pounds on my own between all of 2011 up to the present. It's very difficult, because at times I'll be on a roll losing pounds and then I end up in this stagnant "maintaining" period where I don't lose but keep bouncing between 2-3 pounds for a few weeks or a couple of months. It's so frustrating because I just want to speed up the process of losing my last 25 pounds. Sometimes I'm tempted to get a fat burner or something from GNC, but those things make me feel like I'm going insane and make my heart beat too fast, so I don't use them.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't understand this reps / sets business. Do you just stop to catch a breath? Switch arms? What is 30 plus 30 pushups, bookending the workout?

lol! of course I stop to catch a breath, it's 30 + pause + the other 30

and of course I switch arms: 20 right arm + switch + 20 left arm, etc; 20 x 5

I like that method because it gives you a tangible objective, and it also allows you to upgrade the level if necessary, I mean, when you realize you can do 20 x 5 lift ups very easily, then it's time to add more weight or whatever...

That's all I needed for explanation. I didn't dare ask at a gym

Here's a great arms workout I do on Thursdays. I don't use heavy weight for these.

superset 1 - preacher curls 3x12 & cambered bar standing tricep extensions(behind the neck) 3x12

superset 2 - concentration bicep curls 2x12 & tricep pulldowns 2x12

superset 3 - incline bicep hammer curls 2x15-20 & tricep kickbacks 2x15-20

What exactly do you do? Free weights and some machines. I do NOT do cardio

How often do you do it? I try for three times a week, but don't always get to the gym that often

Where do you do it? At the health club. It's very nice and not full of muscle heads

Why do you do it? Two reasons: (1) I like the way it makes me feel; and (2) I'm 53 and still getting bigger and stronger. I figure that when time catches up to me, I'll probably do something different but for now, I've still got young skin, and the body of a 25-year-old. I'm afraid to quit!

Do you think it is time well spent/invested or do you often wonder whether it's "worth it"? For me, yes. I like the way it makes me feel. I know I can get hit by a bus tomorrow, but at least l will have felt really good all the way up until the bus hit me

I do, sometimes. I play football twice a week and go for an occasional run at night, but other than that I hardly ever do any "muscle work-out". I do sports for social reasons, for health reasons and because I like the feeling, but spending hours on trying to make my biceps grow would feel a bit pathetic to me. I'm skinny and I like women who want a skinny, flexible, elegant cat, rather than a fat, idiotic bull.

As a matter of fact, I've deemed this summer The Summer of Big Arms. I want to see how big I can make my arms. I know they will never be body-builder big, but they are bigger now that they've ever been, and I don't think I've anywhere near peaked. As a former stringbean, I quite like the feeling of twin guns under my shirt sleeves!

Yep, I work out four days a week. My routine is based on noted weight-lifter & nutritionist Dr. Layne Norton's.

Monday - upper body power

Tuesday - lower body power

Wednesday - rest

Thursday - chest & arms light

Friday - legs, back & shoulders light

weekends - rest

My gym is New York Sports Clubs - most of the time I'm at 36th & Madison branch. IMO, weight-training combined with cardio is the best way to keep in shape. At 51, I'm stronger and look better than dudes half my age.

My workouts are generally something like this:

EVERY WORKOUT - Start with about 10 minutes of stretching

MONDAY

Three sets of lunges with 20-pound dumb bells in each hand. These get my heart rate up as much as any aerobic exercise I've ever done

Six sets of benchpresses, getting up to at least 225 - 250 pounds for the last couple sets

Six sets of shoulder work. I vary it each workout.

Six - ten sets of bicep exercises. Probably six sets of one exercise and four sets of another

Six sets of triceps exercises. I alternate between a dip machine (it uses weights) and the pressdown machine. I can do 3 reps of the whole stack in the pressdown machine. I've NEVER been able to do the whole stack on anything in my life!

WEDNESDAY

Three sets of lunges, or six sets of quad presses and six sets of leg bicep presses.

Eighteen sets of biceps stuff. Three different biceps exercises. At least one with dumb bells and one with a bar, and then one on some sort of machine. I can't do preacher curls any more because it hurts my elbows.

Six sets of triceps, sometimes ten sets. I use more weight on this day than the other days.

SATURDAY

Three sets of lunges or the other leg stuff above. I really, REALLY hate lunges, so logically I try to make myself do as many as possible.

MAX OUT on benchpress. I think I have a chance to get to 300 pounds here. I'm at 271 max right now.

Six sets of biceps.

Six sets of triceps

Do you work out?

YES!

What exactly do you do?

About 5 min of cardio (which I keep to a minimum because I have a naturally high metabolism) and about 45 min - 1 hr of weight training depending on how much free time I have to waste.

How often do you do it?

2-3 times a week. Normally 3 times unless Im really sore one of the days and my muscles cant take it.

Where do you do it?

I pay about $70 bucks a month for a semi-ok gym..

Why do you do it?

Because I'd be extremely skinny if I didnt work out. I'm 6'2, so I'd be tall and very very skinny, which doesn't look good, so I decided in high school to bulk up a bit.

Do you think it is time well spent/invested or do you often wonder whether it's "worth it"?

Yes, I think its worth it, health wise and confidence wise.

Change it one more time..

To all you cats who want nice-looking biceps - big shoulders and big triceps will mike your biceps look bigger. I see so many young cats spending too much time on biceps and not concentrating on other parts.

Another thing I've learned over the years is it's not wise to spend a lot of time on shoulders. Your shoulders are getting worked on while you exercise other parts, particularly chest or back. So don't overdo it - the last thing you want to do is fuck up your shoulders. Your workouts will never be the same.

I don't think of the body as a house. I think of it more as a pet. It needs some attention every now and then, but don't fuss over it.

I'm down to just practicing karate techniques on my own and stretching. I've always liked walking a lot too and can easily walk for 4-5 hours. I have to do some physical work in my job too. The problem with doing weight-lifting, push-ups etc. for me was that it provided a rather nice feeling in the start, but after some 1½-2 years I just got cranky and sort of aggressive due to it. I also started feeling a little bit messed up if I didn't do any of my exercise routines for several days (due to working, being ill or not getting enough sleep etc.). The way the body handles blood sugar levels and hormonal production is very complicated in the end and varies from one individual to another. I also think some people just innately experience physical exercise as more pleasant and some others as more frustrating.

You START with stretching? You do know that's not only pointless, but also very dangerous until your muscles aren't warm and properly supplied with blood!
