Depends on how "well" they graduated...

If they went to a crappy public school and just got by the skin of their teeth (because they don't care much about school) then I say $20.00- 40.00 outta cover it.

If they excelled in school and got into a good college with a scholarship then I would do $100.00 (or more) since it was a job WELL done.

Now, all this goes by the wayside if you love the kid, then you just give them what you can and are comfortable with.

No teen will turn down any money mr.green

Unless the kid is related to me, they get a $25 gift card - and then, only if I'm invited to their graduation party.

I'm with paintlady assessment it, depends on how well they graduated. With the exception of those who skated through (when they could've done better) they get, nada. lol

College, Tech School, or any other post high school education, get $50.00 to $100.00

Honor Students and/or college schoarship recipients, they get $200.00 or more.

At the same toke, give as much as your wallet can spare because its a gift not an obligation. Anytime someone does anything they aren't obligated to do it should be appreciated.

I would say how close is the friend? If it were a casual or work friend, I prob would only give 20.00-25.00.. If it were a best friend, more like 50.00... But then im a tight ass when it isnt family...

How are you going to know their GPA?? lol Just cuz a student didnt get honors or scholarships doesnt mean they "skated" thru!! Plus, if they are getting scholarships they dont NEED the money... hmph!

Its been my experience personally and professionally, young adults who do very well academically don't "skate by". Straight A or near straight A students by nature aren't lackadaisical people. Just because a kid recieves a scholarship doesn't necessarily mean they have money beyond their scholarship.

I'll put it this way..

A couple of years ago I had an nephew who barely got out of high school and he recieved nothing from his family or anyone else for that matter. His brother on the other hand who graduated 2nd in his class received above and beyond. My nephew bitched and whined about what everybody did for his sibling. I told him. "Get ready sweetie because by in large what you put out is what you get back in life. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing... sometimes excellence is rewared."

wink
