Superhero Movie grosses

The Avengers is now confirmed to have made a record-crushing $207.4 million in its first three days at the domestic box-office. That number is larger than the entire theatrical run for Thor ($181m), Captain America: The First Avenger ($176.6m) and The Incredible Hulk ($134.8m) and it has some pondering what's next for writer/director Joss Whedon as he is now expected to become one of the most highly sought after genre filmmakers in Hollywood.

Taking inflation into account, The Dark Knight would have earned $172-175m and Spider-Man 3 $171-$174m in 2012 dollars

The five official Marvel movies to date, from 2008's "Iron Man" to last year's "Captain America" had, after all, made over $2.2 billion worldwide. But most figured that, given that the film followed on to four franchises simultaneously, that there would be a cap on it: surely if "Iron Man 2" made $600 million worldwide, that was the ceiling for the film's grosses?

realized on such an epic scale PAYS OFF

i mean when you look at comics and cartoons

that are made today or the last 30 years, they

haven't really been for kids, they've been toned down

to be look at by kids, but the jist of most of them
