Summer of Cute Dresses

So, I've been on this kick for about three years: I just looooooove wearing dresses in summer. They're cooler than shorts or capris - and you just always look fabulous.

I picked this one up last night - and am wearing it today. I feel like such a [img:$uid]http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g216/rebecca8273/emoticon/061.gif[/img:$uid]

This is actually one of my favorite kinda threads!

Let's see, nothing new yet (we just started hovering into the low-mid 60's here), but on my wishlist:

Blue floral prom dressBorder print prom dressStone wrap pencil dress

Very cute! I like the middle one, in particular. Is that a print? Or is it embroidered?

It reminds me of my all-time favorite dress from the movies - Grace Kelly in Rear Window...

I've ordered this one, too. You can't see it in the photo, but it has fagot stitched details. mushy

And I will not be accessorizing in brown. hmph!

Why do all summer dresses have to be sleeveless these days? pout

I can't be sleeveless at work and anyway I hate my upper arms so I wouldn't wear them outside of work either. And lots of dresses just don't look right with a shrug.

Boo.

Boo.

I feel you, actually. I do like a bit of a sleeve - and I think most women (especially past a certain age) look better with a little more coverage.

The only place I really love sleeveless is on the golf course. When it's hot, sleeves tend to cling (or bind under the arm), which makes it harder to swing a club.

I do have a long sweater on over Dress #1 today.

Wrap dresses can look amazing. nod

They're also very forgiving of minor weight fluctuations. You can always adjust them looser or tighter.

This is when wearing a slip comes in handy.

One of the great things about wearing a dress is wearing a silky slip underneath. A full slip feels incredibly sexy.

Or maybe I've watched too many Elizabeth Taylor movies.

Just one tug and it's unwrapped. It does come in handy at certain times though. nod

Her entire wardrobe for that movie was insane. But that dress was yard upon yard of silk organza... touched

I'm wearing the middle one today, with a black "ribbon" tie for a belt:

It hangs much lower on me and I've also got on a black cardigan to keep my arms warm.

Is that just because you feel like you'll be "too dressed up" and people will comment on it?

Trust me - that doesn't last long. Once the folks around you used to seeing you in a dress occasionally, they won't think a thing of it.

I wore one of my new dresses last Friday and remarked to a friend of mine (via email, since she works elsewhere) that I felt too cute to be at work. She said, "But isn't that your deal pretty much all the time?" lol

And you know...it kind of is my deal. I've just gotten used to knowing that, anywhere I am, any time of day (or night), I am probably going to be more elaborately put together than 95% of the people I meet. It's just who I am - and the people who know me are used to it. shrug

I think you and I have that in common. It used to bug me just the tiniest bit that I'd get all gussied up for an event and my friends would be in jeans, but then I got over it. It probably helps me look even better in comparison. lol

And I'm certainly never overdressed. I don't wear ball gowns to a baseball game or anything.

I have my jean & dressed down days too, but in general I want to always look nice.

yes, basically. I've always just been a pants/shorts kinda girl. not always jeans but usually. I mean I always do my hair and make up, I like to accessorize, I love shoes (even though I can't afford to have all the ones I want) so I wouldn't say I'm dressed down per say....just almost always pants.

nod

I blame it on my parents - two people who couldn't look schlubby if they tried.

When I was a kid, the public schools didn't have a dress code - but my mother had a personal one for her children. We weren't allowed to wear jeans to school more than once a week, and shorts were never worn to school. I'll never forget one time I was headed out the door in something that looked pretty wrinkled and awful - and she said, "That's what you're wearing? Do me a favor - don't tell anyone who you belong to. disbelief " Even in college, I ironed pretty much everything I wore - and even starched my oxford shirts. And once I started working in television, everything I wore had to be perfect.

Once you establish those lifelong habits, they're hard to break. Today, I'm wearing a linen tunic that I spent over an hour mending and ironing last night. I wouldn't even think of wearing it un-ironed. shrug

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
