Dreams Is it important to pay attention the dreams you have or should dreams just be treated just as that, just a dream and leave it at that?
I know that dream interpretations can get tricky. The main thing is that dreams are telling you something about yourself, not so much about others (if they appear in your dream).
I keep having major dreams lately about someone, who at one time was an important person in my life, but who I eventually cut out of my life for good because they brought drama, negativity and confusion into my life that I chose to no longer deal with. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It's extremely important to pay attention to dreams.
Dreams are not a gift from the gods, nor are they any kind of intervention from providence.
However, after taking Psych 101, I was taught that your subconcious brain will often attempt to resolve certain conflicts and issues within your dreams. Self-concious teenagers will often have the 'underwear in public' dreams, children will often have 'boogie man' or 'being chased' dreams, and grownups will have really strange 'conflict with dead relative' etc. dreams.
Your subconcious mind seeks resolution. Resolve your problem in real life, and this minimizes your weirded out dreams.
Don't trust those silly dream books though---dreams very much use symbolism and those symbols often mean very real things; however, your own experiences determine what symbols mean---there's no universal book that applies to all.

I used to dream very frequently...when I was overwhelmed with stress & angst, I barely got any sleep and therefore the dreams ended for a long while.
Now, I'm back to a semi-normal sleep pattern and I'm dreaming again...and let me tell you...my subconscious is ALL F*CKED UP.
One time I woke up and had to reassure myself that I wasn't on the run from the police. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I had a dream about a tornado the other night. Tornado dreams are "change" dreams - so I'm feeling a little nervous about that.
I don't get actual premonitions, so I don't know what the change will be - only that something is out there. Sometimes the change is good, sometimes it's bad.
Then again, I might have dreamt of a tornado because it was storming. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think dreams are just the subconscious blowing off steam. Sometimes they're just silly or fun, sometimes they're just creative expressions of what you're going through in life, sometimes there's a good idea or two in them...but overall, I don't think they mean much.

Well when I'm not having dreams about that certain person that I wish could just disappear out of them, other times I either dream about my father (who passed away 11 years ago) which sometimes I wake up crying or I dream that I have an UZI acting as a vigilante trying to protect my home from burglars. I figure the dreams of the latter come from me watching too much of the Discovery ID channel and Snapped. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I have also heard that dreams are the brain's filing system - which would explain some of the bizarre connections and combinations in dreams. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I don't believe there is any connection to your life and your dreams.
I have lucid dreams and they are fantastic...sometimes it's a bummer when you wake up Does anyone have the DreamOn App yet? I have it but it hasn't worked for me yet as it hasn't detected me in a deep enough sleep to play any of the sound scapes.

Yeah, that's how I view it. There are times when I've gotten ideas to write about from dreams, and I always love that. But for the most part, my dreams are rather banal, with the occasional nightmare or dream of flying or whatever thrown in. About every six months or so, I have a dream where I'm back waiting tables and I can't keep up no matter what I do. That's about the most interesting dream I have, and it's always pretty obvious to me that it means I feel overwhelmed or out of control with work.
But beyond making very simple logical conclusions like that, I'm always a little leery of dream interpretation just because it's never made sense to me why dream interpretation would be universal, or even universal across a society or segment of society. It loses me because I think it leaps to conclusions.
But that's all just me. I have to admit I've never looked into dreams much.

You know what...?
I had a forebodding tornado dream back-when.
It came over the house across the street and was heading towards our house.
Now that I think about it...one of the instigators to the collapse lived behind our neighbor across the street.

While I'm sure that things you've seen and done during the day influence your dreams at night..I don't accept all the symbolism that people connect to them.
But that's just me. I love intense dreams...I'd have called nightmares when I was a child....but the scary ones are the best for me lol. A so called Dream Psychologist would have a field day with me

Ex-Moderator | I agree with what others have said above - that dream analysis only makes sense to you yourself.
Stress dreams usually tell you you're stressed in waking hours.
I used to have recurring dreams about looking for my shoes. For years I had them. The details of the dream were always very differerent, but the central activity of the dream was that I'd lost my shoes and was looking for them. Then in one of the dreams I gave up looking and bought an awesome new pair. I stopped having the dreams for years (though, I have one again every few years or so now).
My dream life is incredibly active. I positively love dreaming. My dreams are often long and involved and extremely entertaining. Sometimes I'm someone else in my dreams (the dream is from my point of view, but I'm not me), sometimes my dreams are like watching a movie (I'm not even in the dream, I'm just watching a story play out), sometimes I lucid dream - I can control my actions in the dream and sometimes even what I'm dreaming about - like I can change the story or my surroudnings or whatever.
I wish I could tap into it and be that creative and amazing in real life. Maybe someday I will. |

I give dreams a little bit of credit, based on one particular "incident";
When the ex and I were still dating, I had a very vivid dream of driving with her in a car with a toilet between the two front seats. And there was shit in the toilet.
I mentioned to her about my "crazy dream"...she mentioned it to her mom, who told her that I need to play the numbers in my license plate in the lottery b/c dreaming with shit is supposed to mean MONEY.
I dismissed it...but don't you know that a few days later the damned numbers to my license plate HIT?!?!?!?!
Coincidence?
Anyway...I think that sometimes the stress and worries swirling about in your head do manifest themselves into dreams...as for the foretelling aspect...I'm open to debate on that. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I have had dreams about doing the weather on television in my nightgown - and ripping something off the teletype, getting into the booth to do my newscast, and not being able to read.
But the worst, far and away, is when I have to take another calculus class to finish my college degree - and I forget that I registered for class, never go, and miss the drop date. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Other recurring dreams I have:
Falling: Either falling out of a roller coaster, I'm in an elevator that is dropping or I've accidentally fallen over a balcony railing.
Blinded: There's a bright light shining in my eyes that blinds me. I'm not able to see and have to feel my way through things, yet can hear people's voices and they are talking to me as if they haven't noticed that I can't see.
Fantasies: The last fantasy dream I had was a great one. I met Johnny Depp at this upscale event and we flirted with each other. He was fione as hell in his tuxedo. He asked me out and I had to go do something before we left this event together, then my phone rung and I woke up. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I very seldom remember my dreams. Even so, the best dreams I've remember are the I've had anorgasm. These dreams are far and few between.

It's a hightenned dream state, where you often experience the dream in more vivid (after incredibly vivid detail), but in which you are often aware that you are dreaming and therefore able to control all aspects of your dream....or you're at least semi-aware, and in more control of your dream.
People have been practiciing lucid dreaming to lose weight---for example, people will often dream of being at a feaste and pigging out on so many things they love in their dreams, that they are less hungry during their waking lives.
I've had a lucid dream ONCE, and it was....beautiful. I woke up stunned at how vivid the dream was, but I transistioned from the lucid dream, to a hazy dream, to waking up.

That sounds cool.
I can remember only ONCE where I was dreaming and I knew that it was a dream.
If this is something that you can "control" then I'm def gonna look into it.
