Gabourey Sidibe - "Joan Cusack Told Me to Quit Showbusiness"

WTF? I'm sure Gabby already knew that hollywood was "image conscious" but Joan Cusack's ugly ass could have given better advice I think.

Go 'head Gabby!!! clapping

I love that she did a quick turn around "Oh no I go this!" and used the expression "No shade".

Proof that she was found and raised by gays in the wild. mushy

falloff

I love how Joan went from 0 straight to 10, no hollywood bullshit, no emotional cushions to soften the blue, just "quit the business".

Granted, I'm sure she meant no harm by telling her that.

Not to sound offensive but....this chick can't tell anybody to quit showbusiness with a face like that. She's a comedic actress right? I mean it aint like she's the romantic leading lady type.

I would have to guess that Joan's comment stems from lingering bitterness about her OWN experiences as a less-than-pretty actress in Hollywood.

But hey...at least it's got people talking about Joan Cusack, right? I mean, has she EVER been even mentioned on the Org previously???

That's what I'm thinking, too. I don't think she'd be, like, 'You don't have the looks for showbiz.'

Yeah. I doubt she was spiting her. Joan obviously had to be told that she wasn't fit for roles she wanted either just from her physical makeup so she was trying to warn Gabby.

i think it's more of a case where joan said something that was misinterpreted. joan herself probably took a lot of grief for not being 'hollywood' pretty. she likely said or meant to say something along the lines of 'if it really bothers you, quit the business because this part of showbiz it won't go away.'

then again i wasn't there at the time so

For sure. I don't believe she was being "mean" about it. She just doesn't seem like that kind of person.

I think you're right. A lot of people would say "don't become an actor" for a lot of different reasons.

Exactly. I think her intent was to shield her from cruelty.

Hollywood's tough, even if you're gorgeous and bone thin. Imagine how hard it must be to be in Hollywood and trying to make it as an overweight actress. I LOVE that Gabrielle S just cruises right along and doesn't let anything hold her down. I've also read in different mags or on blogs how people think that she is "rude" because she doesn't act all humbled when she meets some big star (or someone who thinks of themselves as such) which I take to mean, that they can't believe this overweight girl has the audacity to not stop what she's doing and bow down to some boring queef actor. Gabrielle S thinks highly of herself and I imagine, thinks THEY'RE luck to meet HER. biggrin And I love that smile

It's weird to me that everybody immediately assumed she was insulting the girl.

As opposed to issuing a benevolent warning.

Because let's be real here - she probably is going to go through hell trying to get roles and end up on the receiving end of all kinds of verbal abuse, and it's not solely about her weight, let's be real here.

Even if she were rail thin, her face doesn't meet the narrow criteria of what is considered 'beautiful' and acceptable in Hollywood either.

Looks aside, not to mention some of the more 'unsavory' things that go on in that industry. If this girl sticks around there for too long, she'll never be the same person again and I mean that in the most negative sense possible.

For all of those reasons, I think Cusack was onto something and maybe liked the girl and didn't want to see her go through any of that stuf and did her a favor.

Which, I'm sure Sidibe will probably just ignore - so many people want to be stars for some odd reason and have no idea what they're getting themselves into, but...there you go.

Yeah strangely people think Gabby was on the right but someone like Joan had a lot of experience and knows how rejection is in Hollywood. I sure hope Gabby don't go crazy because Hollywood don't respect her because let's be real, Hollywood won't accept you unless you did all their deeds and they won't just put you in regardless of how you look.

Exactly. Basically Cusack pretty much went, "Kid you don't know what you're getting into for a multitude of reasons, run NOW" but everybody is slagging her for it...

No good deed goes unpunished.

Its weird since both have been regulated to semi roles on cable.

True...but in Hollywood, that's called "steady work" and that pays the rent

I absolutely love Joan's character on "Shameless"

I'm iffy with Gabby's role on "The Big C"
