MLB: Mariano Rivera Tears ACL Devastating news for the Yankees. He was in the outfield shagging fly balls(something he's done his entire career) when he got hurt. The question is will he be able to come back at his age, or will he decide to hang it up after a Hall of Fame career?

Aww my fav pitcher-wish him well. Devastating injury. My son had the surgery to repair his ACL and he decided not to play sports any more.

If any 40+ year-old could come back from this injury the following season, it's Rivera.
And Jamie Moyer. | |

- Both my brother and I were in denial about this last night. I texted him asking what happened, although I saw the highlights. He said "oh Mo just twisted his knee" I texted "oh".....ignoring the look of utter pain on Mo's face!!! Complete denial! I can't imagine the Yanks without him. He's spoiled us with his greatness. He'll be 43 later this year.....this might be it. -

From the NY Daily News:
Mariano Rivera says he’s going to come back to play for the Yankees, won’t let torn ACL end his career in pinstripes
'I am coming back' the Yankee legend says By Mark Feinsand / New York Daily News Published: Friday, May 4, 2012, 5:09 PM Updated: Friday, May 4, 2012, 5:58 PM
Mariano Rivera's season might be over thanks to a torn ACL and torn meniscus in his right knee, but the legendary closer insisted Friday that his career will continue beyond this season.
"I am coming back," Rivera said. "Put it down. Write it down in big letters. I'm not going down like this.
"God willing and given the strength, I'm coming back."
Rivera suffered the knee injury while shagging flies during batting practice before Thursday's game.
Rivera spoke by phone with Dr. David Altchek, who told the closer he should be ready to go by spring training in February.
"I love to play the game," Rivera said. "I don't think, to me, going out like this is the right way. ... I don't think like that. With the strength of the Lord, I have to continue."
The greatest closer of all time spoke a day after suffering a torn ACL in the freak pre-game accident.
He appeared in good spirits and joked with reporters.
Rivera, who will be a free agent after the season, was asked how he knows the Yankees will want him back.
"They'll want the old goat," he said with a laugh.
