What is he supposed 2 do? I'd say there was a 99% chance this draft was fixed 2 reward the new buyer of that franchise. U buy the team, I promise u the 1st pick.

Leave the commission to someone else.

I'll say this again; Jim Rome has ALWAYS asked the difficult questions that most soft journalists will never get close to. He is not a chump. He does his job very well.

No way. The NBA wasn't 1/5 of the league it is today before he took over as commissioner. He's grown the NBA to heights nobody predicted would be possible. Unfortunately, the last few years are forever going to tarnish everything he did in the first twenty.
BTW, Adam Silver, the guy who sits next to Stern in all of his big press conferences, is pretty much guaranteed to be the next Commissioner. Stern has said he'll be gone sooner than later.

Exactly what the guy said in the article. No, no and no again.

Yeah. Stern hasn't really done a good job in the last few years as a commissioner. It's kinda sad. He helped to bring the NBA as you said to heights that hadn't been reached before he became the commissioner but his latest actions don't favor anyone. He probably won't be missed as much when he finally does leave his position.

IMO, Magic, Larry & Michael did more to raise the NBA than 'Spin Doctor' Stern.

How old is Stern? I've been looking at his ass ever since I was 9! He needs to retire or something. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

He moved to far to the side of the owners. For a long time he did a great job of stradling the middle between the players and owners while still growing tv interest/revenue, increasing attendance, player salaries, endorsement deals (for players and the league), overseas interest AND the owners profits. But when the owners weren't making as much money as they used to and started complaining about it, Stern leaned too far in their direction. Prior to that, for a very long time he was right on point with nearly all of his decisions.

Nah. Because somebody had to manage that growth. Stern led the league through the age of "the star player" and used it to make NBA style basketball huge AND "cool" all around the world.

^ What about the coaches?

An example of what I'm saying is this; basketball is basketball worldwide. Kids all over the world want to be like the stars they see in the NBA. They want to grow up to play like those players, dress like those players, have a shoe deal and win NBA titles. That's why OUR basketball league has so many foriegn players now.
Football, on the other hand, is still soccer in 90% of the world.
Stern was hugely responsible for making the NBA look the way it does and almost completely responsible for its current popularity around the world. You can find the figures pretty easily. The league was fairly small when he took over compared to where it is now (its only 60 years old and he's been commissioner for like, 25 of them). The money involved was not billions. Teams were not worth tens, or hundreds, or millions of dollars. It's growth has been MUCH faster and larger than similar businesses in the same amount of time.

I'm talking about the NBA as a business. That's what Stern does - he runs a multi-billion dollar business. A business that involves owners, ownership groups, advertising, arena contracts, television rights, about a thousand other bits of minutia AND players. The league doesn't just roll along, happening all by itself. None of the major sports leagues do. It's a huge undertaking, bigger now than it's ever been.

Too much expansion Taking the majority of playoff games away from network TV Rules changes that soften the game Shitty refs Shady draft lottery
The only thing Emperor Stern did right was forcing Brain-Dead Dolan to hire Donnie Walsh to undo the mess Isiah made of the Knicks. Other than that, he's been shit in my eyes. Just a shill for the owners.
As far as player unions go, MLB is the best and most powerful. The others aren't in the same stratosphere as baseball.
