I am rarely at a loss for words, but the most recent round of allegations about what’s going on between forever-divorcing couple Deion and Pilar Sanders have left me stuck on stupid and staring blankly at the screen.

That’s what I did this morning as I read recaps on respectable news sites about Pilar (and a friend) being arrested for assaulting Deion while he slept in his bed. And afterward, Deion tweeted a picture of his children filling out police reports against their own mother. WTH? My God, where did Deion’s good sense go off to that left him thinking that posting pictures of this nonsense was a good idea?

I don’t know any of these people to speculate about what’s going on in their bedrooms, so I won’t even guess what went down in the middle of the night. But I do know that they need to keep their business out the streets and especially off Twitter. Someone between the two of these people has got to show some good sense. But neither one of them seems to have a lick of it.

Throughout yesterday, blogs speculated that Pilar must have lost it after seeing photos of her soon-to-be ex-husband and Tracey Edmonds (Babyface and Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife) — his hand protectively wrapped around her waist — on the red carpet of Broadway play A Streetcar Named Desire. In March, Pilar had filed court motions alleging that Edmonds was one of her husband’s mistresses, a claim Edmonds quickly addressed in a statement, one that didn’t actually deny she was dating Sanders. “Deion Sanders and I first met at the top of this year, after he filed for divorce,” Edmonds wrote, “when he and his partner reached out to me to produce a project of his.” Hmm.

With a bitter divorce underway, is showing up on the red carpet with your hand nestled on the hip of the woman your wife accused of being your mistress really a good idea? Not that that’s any excuse for a wife to attack, so we’re clear. That’s just nuts. In fact, all of this is, and the fact that we know about it is nuttier still. Nobody reading about all the act-a-fool nonsense going down in that house is deciding on a settlement, assigning alimony payments or even caring about either of their best interests. We’re all just tuned in for the latest reality show — this one actual reality without the producers and editors to rev up the drama.

Deion and Pillar might think what they’re doing is garnering public sympathy by keeping us in lock-step with their every move, but what they’re really doing is making themselves look even crazier than they did when they had that Oxygen reality show about their lives. There are kids involved in this astounding mess, who are watching their parents literally battle out a divorce like banshees over the family fortune. This drama isn’t just shameful, it’s really, really sad.
