I never sat down to watch Titanic though we had a copy at some point.

Twillight sounds overrated as hell, never want to see them.

People seemed excited about Black Swan and though I can kind of see why, I had a feeling it was going to be more hype than substance

I'm hilarious and you love me.

I regret seeing the Titanic (1997)... what a piece of shit.

After that crap I've for all intents and purposes have stopped going to the movies. So, I've missed all of the blockbusters and most of award winning movies. If it comes on cable I may watch part of something but I don't watch to many of the newer movies. Damn I'm outta of the loop. lol

Yes, Revolutionary Road... someone should've given that couple a hand full of pills at the begining so the book could end on page 3.

I have only seen 7 and Citizen Kane from this list. I would recomend Citizen Kane.

The only movie I purposely haven't watched due to it's popularity is Titanic

10. Passion of the Christ

Movies I did see but couldn't understand why people raved about them are:

1. Do the Right thing... bleh

2. Dances with Wolves....boring ass movie, with a terrible actor

3. Braveheart...it was....ok

4. Friday....ok

5. Darknight II (whatever it's called)...it was good, but the first was better

6. Inception....It was good...but not excellent

7. Hangover...I think I laughed at one scene...I don't get this 'Asians are funny' thing. Then they had to follow it up with Hangover II in Bangkok, and turn up the volumn on the Asians are funny bullshit.

8. Eddie Murphey's Raw...oh please (this goes for most Eddie Murphey movies I've seen)

9. There's Something about Mary (it had a few LOL moments, but not that many)

10. 7 Brides for 7 Brothers.....people who made that movie should have been imprisoned.

Give the first two Godfather movies a go. If you like movies, see them. Trust me.

Citizen Kane I've watched and it wasn't the greatest ever filmed.

'Precious' and 'Passion of the Christ' are watchable but not must see. The Frist two 'Godfather's' are.

I've never seen a Harry Potter film.

More will come to me.

"The Hurt Locker' was easily Best Picture 2009. For very solid reasons. Best war film since 'BlackHawk Down.'

'Blade Runner' is a mind bending classic.

Read the books, saw the movies. Own one movie but would only own the first and last in addition to the Half Blood Prince.

Hunger Games - this is the first one that came to mind. I refuse to believe all that hype.

Star Wars lurking (I've seen just about every episode of the 60s TV Star Trek via my parents though. neutral )

I've read all the Potter books once, they aren't good enough to re-read.

Lord of the Rings own the movies read the four books (The Hobbitt) at least seven times.

For both, the movies are close enough to the books. Lord of the Rings I've never thought of as kid's fare.

It's usually summer blockbuster stuff I avoid, not really because they're popular but more because I rarely enjoy action/comedy stuff.

sometimes I find I'm wrong though like when I finally wacthed The Hangover and ended up really enjoying it. I still refuse to watch Bridesmaids though.

I can't believe I'm taking the time to type this, but Bridesmaids is actually pretty damn good. Way, WAY better than it has any right to be. And far, FAR better than most comedies of it's ilk, including Hangover 2.

type of comedy aside, Kristen & Melissa are a big reason why I avoided the film as I find neither of them funny.

I have a group of friends who have an half-assed tradition of trying to see every film that gets nominated in every Oscar category before the show airs. The best part of that is that we all agree the Academy Awards don't really matter. It's just a good excuse to watch a whole bunch of movies in a short period of time so we can discuss them with each other. Bridesmaids had nominations, so I watched it. I laughed quite a bit. More than that, I genuinely liked most of the characters and their arcs in the movie. Admittedly, it's not going to be everyone's cup o' tea and it is pretty much what it represents itself as. But with that in mind, I thought it was pretty solid.

smile

Close Encounters: I personally think Spielberg sucks when he does "aliens from outter space" movies shrug Leave that to Scott, Lucas or Cameron...I can't believe that this slow-paced movie with almost no action was such a mainstream hit...

The Hurt Locker: almost the whole US Army disliked the movie shrug Hollywood wasn't (isn't) prepared to make a relevant movie about Irak; not yet...

The Departed: just another run-of-the-mill cop thriller with big names and a big bugdet/promotion attached to it, no more and no less, people thought that, since Scorsese directed, the movie had to be good...to each his own shrug ; Nicholson, DiCaprio and Damon were all horribly miscast, in my opinion, and overall the story was hard to believe; it was a remake to begin with...(Internal Affairs)

The Deer Hunter: ugh, one hour of some russian wedding, one hour of racism and one hour of melodrama. I still think Platoon is the one and only good Vietnam movie ever (Apocalypse Now is considered a Vietnam film, yes, but it also works as an adaptation of Heart of Darkness, it's much more than just a Vietnam film...)

In retrospect Ms. Taylor's version isn't all that bad. As Harle said, if you can get beyonde the Hollywierd b.s. Director Joseph Leo Mankiewicz allowed this picture to get away from him.

...Actually I could go on and on here. Roughly 70 percent of the most popular movies - stuff considered cultural phenomenons - I just haven't seen. Not because I was trying to be different but because none of it seemed interesting to me, and still doesn't. And then when I hear so many people rave about them or try to encourage me to see them...that gets on my nerves and has the weird effect of making me go out of my way to avoid seeing them because then I feel like they're being forced on me.

I didn't see "The Exorcist" until about three years ago, and was appalled at how overrated it is. "Alice Sweet Alice" is way more disturbing. I actually had to force myself to focus and finish Exorcist, that's how underwhelming (and even dull) I found it.
