Cities existed long before cars were even built. Especially in a city private cars are not necassary. It's a shame that children who live in cities have so little contact to animals and have no space left to play anywhere. But you are only concerned that they might have to deal with dogshit .

That was in a time when the streets were polluted with other things and diseases (often spread because of fecal matter, for example) were all around.

People live in cities, because they prefer cities to having contact with animals. If you want to live in dog shit, move to the country side! It's as simple as that.
