opened usps package Someone opened my usps package?I walked out of my apartment at 6:50 am and noticed a package on the ground outside my door....ok, so I picked it up threw it in my apartment and went to work. When I came back I noticed the package was open. The package is in one of those plastic bags that you have to tear hard to open. My address and apartment number is correct. The package should have been in my mailbox. I'm hoping someone opened it by accident and then put it by my door and wasn't snooping through my stuff. Usually usps and fedex leaves packages for everyone in an office in my building. What should I do? Forget it of file a complaint?

i went to a place that boxed and shipped packages and i sent a bday preasent to my daughter, fedx. a few days later when she didn't get it i checked with them (fedx) and was told that the driver left the package at the door of the apartment and that this was done at his discression. i was never repaid by them or the other company as it was said that the 'deluxe' package deal DID NOT include the package bein "signed" for i am KING BAD!!!
you are NOT... STOP ME IF YOU HEARD THIS BEFORE...

File A Complaint. If the package could've fit in ur mailbox then there was no reason for the carrier to leave it at an apartment door. I'd file a complaint if it looked tampered with. [Edited 4/30/12 16:35pm]

are the contents intact? i've had it happen to me that the postal worker delivers other people's stuff to my box. once i even opened someone else's mail without noticing it wasn't addressed to me until i'd opened it. in those cases i'd put everything back inside the envelope and tuck the mail into their box, or under their door. maybe this happened to you. good luck.

If all deliveries usually go to your apartments office, then maybe someone picked up your parcel by mistake....then put it at your door USPS and UPS "usually" don't leave parcels by the door of apartments because anyone can walk by and take it...they "usually" leave a notice... If all contents are there, great! I'd stil call your post office to let them know about the situation so it won't happen again... Your regular carrier might've been off and those temp guys might not have known about leaving all parcels at your office

The mailman probably delivered it to the wrong address and whoever received it was a nosy SOB.
Happened to my ex's W2 one year (that's the employer income tax end-of-year statement to you non-Americans)...it showed up in our mailbox after the mail had come, OPENED.
So whoever received it by chance had the indecency of opening it up, and could see my ex's Social Security number (!) and income. That's a WHOLE LOTTA information to be floating out there...so we called the local postmaster and complained. We asked that the USPS pay for credit monitoring for her for a year.
He basically said NO and there's nothing they could do.
