Best Buy to close 55+ stores by the next year

Best Buy announced yesterday a closing 55 of their locations to switch focus to their small mobile locations , best buy lost 1 billion last quarter overall. Sales in Tv's and other electronics are way down and music and dvd sales are a constant loss to the company. No word on what locations will go but I can tell u that here in NYC hearing a customer ask for "Four Tops" and the sales person say "is that an animated film" then the guy says "no it's a singing group" and the salesperson says "oh what's his first name four?" WOW close them all

Beginning? This has been going on for a long time! If best buy goes, there won't be any major stores in my city to buy electronics and appliances from. And the spin doctors keep saying that the economy is starting to recover. Yeah, right. neutral

Best buy is being killed by amazon and online retailers i havent been buying things from there but i go there regularly to see and touch technology.

They use music to get ppl in the door but thats not the reason most music stores closed. They closed coz everything is online and u can download with ease. Same thing is happeneing to book stores now borders died and barnes and nobles will be gone soon, its all coz of the digital revolution

It seems the lower paying jobs are the first to go.

Personally i dont like Best Buy because they are the main reason you lost real music stores, though it would have slowly happend anyway, best buy pushed it along. Whats troubling for them is that there sales in electronics are down, which is there business, the only thing they have that is showing a profit are the mobile stores, which are very small, but all the other stuff is losing money. The reason is that Best Buy always lost money on music which is what people didnt realize, but they were bailed out by joe schmo who bought a tv , but now Best Buy cant sell those things like they used too. they really are struggling in those areas. Forget Music and Dvds that business is shot and done, everytime i go into Best Buy to search for a new cd that maybe that might have 1 of, they are downsizing a department of music more and more. My problem with Best Buy is they absorbed Musicland Sam Goody in 2000 and ran it further into the ground, it tried to make that MUSIC retailer an exact copy of them, and the people that went to goody, were the same ones going to tower, they wanted selection, and once Best Buy took over, selection was eliminated, and that let to the demise of Goody and Tower and Virgin etc...and Now most likely Music in Best Buy stores

I haven’t shopped there regularly for years, but being a Minnesota-based company, I hate to see them do poorly.

Still, they need to make drastic changes if they’re going to compete.

nod Except on Black Friday, most BB stores are dead. Even on the weekends. They have become a showroom for the many online stores whose prices are much better, and you don't have a warranty pushed on you every 5 minutes.

I agree customer service is a z-, they are not good enough for an f-. But I buy a my TV's from Costco-where they stand behind their products. If you buy a bigger screen TV say 50" or bigger and get an extended warranty which adds 3 years coverage for a total of 5 years, they come to your house to fix it if it every breaks down. No mailing it or anything.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
