I cut this "pie" in several slices.

Socioeconomic indicators. Unemployment rates have always run higher for black males, even in good times. Graduation rates have historically run lower for black males. Black males are incarcerated at a higher rate than the general population, and because recidivism rates are high across the board, most of those black males incarcerated go back to or stay in jail. Birth rates among blacks are higher among the rest of the population. This motley stew creates fertile ground for what is called "gangster glamorization" here.

America Canonizes Outlaws. We've done it forever. It's engrained in our culture.

That Goes Double For Kids. Anyone who's visited a toy store in the last 100 years could tell you that.

And 100-fold for pop culture. Rock and roll a/k/a "race music." Rebel Without A Cause. The Rat Pack. The Corleone Family. Punk.

Outlaws Sell Records. Always have, always will.

Hip-Hop is Cheap To Record. Few instruments, MCs who don't require vocal lessons.

"Black" Culture Is A Cash Register. Especially when it's taken mainstream. Ask this site's namesake.

Hip-Hop arguably jumped the shark years ago. It's almost a parody of itself at times.

Black Culture, which almost always trickles up, not down, hasn't replaced it with any new form of music. Jazz and Blues dominated till Rock, Rock dominated till R&B, R&B (including funk and disco) gave way to hip-hop, and nothing's topped hip-hop since.

All this contributes to Gangster Glamorization.

"poverty is the worst kid of violence"

ghandi

gangtsa rap sells

it doesn't cause violence

it reports on the violence in the hood

they didn't even have gangsta rap when

i did most of the shit i did, but they did have

POVERTY... if you thinkin that poverty is a thing of the past.

umph.

if you think that the poor can change their situation

by doin the RIGHT thing

umph, again

reminder:

in predominantly black schools you can graduate with a fourth grade readin average

let's not talk about readin comprehension and math, so say whut you will, it's hard to get your

family out of the mouth of the beast, IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.

if you don't give a shit about your fam, you can pull up and out, then you can go back to your hood

(not physicly lol) and talk about how lazy the niggas are that didn't do whut you did to get out.

(said fuck a family)

blacksploitation was killed because blacks were makin money tellin the story of the hood.

any time a black can make some money tell the story of the hood, people gonna have a prollum with it. IT IS AMAZIN that when they said ozzyozbourne music made whiteboys kill, they dropped that real qwick, " how stupid could one be to think music can make one kill "

but let's ride this GANGSTA RAP KILLS 'til the wheels fall off, BECAUSE look at them niggas makin money talkin bout how they would rather kill than be killed....

i can't think of ONE TIME i heard a song say

"if you wanna get ahead

you gotta do whut i said

ask a gang to put a gun in yo hand

then to join go out and kill an innocent man

and when you do you'll be rich to

and everything i say is true"

my sixteen in the chamber

equal sixteen lines

and when i'm blastin yo ass

it's i got killa rhymes

when i say nigga to you

it's 'bout who i love

and "ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME"

means it's from above...

Didn't say it was *just* the black community.

I know crimes and bullshit get committed among all racial groups.

I'm talking about 'gangster' specifically in the context it's most commonly used in MODERN times - not 20s and 30s gangsters.

It's weird to me that everybody is playing dumb and giving this bullshit semantics tapdance around what I'm saying here. I don't know if it's because of embarassment or viewing this as airing the dirty laundry of the black community or what, but I don't give a shit, I'm about calling a spade a spade when it comes to this because it's literally killing off our community and playing dumb about it or denying isn't doing us ANY favors.

Just like the Bible says teach a kid which way to go and they'll adhere to that as an adult, same concept. When anyone is inundated with negative imagery from the time they're a child all the way up to adulthood, that IS going to have a negative effect and most people are going to go right along with that and 'become' that. Everybody from the time they're young looks to find who they are and what they should do and what is or isn't okay, based on how they grow up, who they're around, and what they're exposed to; nobody grows up in a vacuum.

And folks here might say that's bull, but I bet if I suggested you stick your kid in front of violent content, sexual content and god knows what else 24/7 until they hit fifteen and find out what happens, I bet you wouldn't do it.

Black boys, from the time they're young, are always being exposed to violent music and other stuff that shows black males as being criminals, toting guns and being told that their life span is going to be but a fraction of the rest of humanity's average life span... the whole nine from the time they're knee-high, and people are seriously confused as to why the male half of the black community is in a state of emergency?

It's psychological warfare and programming. Shove bullshit down people's throats about themselves long enough and they start to buy it and start to self-destruct. And the fact that it's happening on such a wide-scale through all forms of media for so many years to me shows that it's intentionally done to generate that result; same with how the government helped flood the black communities with drugs decades ago.

Basically it's just a really subtle form of genocide.

And as far as King BAD goes, I'm not going to sit here and humor anything he says because, with all due respect, a white male living in Europe isn't going to know a goddamn thing about this.

And sure, hip-hop is catching on in other communities in recent years but there's a difference between that and how long the black community has been drowned in gangsta rap and violent and sexually offensive imagery. Black males have been exposed to this shit way longer, and white teens do have some counterbalance in that...when they turn on a tv and see images of themselves, they aren't ALWAYS depicted as CRIMINALS.

So no it's not comparable.

And I'm not going to sit here and argue this with anybody. You come see me when you've just had your brother tell you less than an hour ago in so many words that he thinks he's destined to die young purely because he's a black male.

I'm out.

They helped to destroy generations of blacks, and hell yes they meant to! I knew a lot of people of various races who were raised by single parents. The difference is that it was the brothas and sistas whose father was either a crackhead, dead or in prison. Most of the other folks were just divorced. And not only was black daddy gone, but mama was strung out too...or busting her ass trying to provide for four kids by working two and three jobs at a time. Who's there to help the kids with their homework? Who's there to make sure the kid is even doing their homework, or even going to school for that matter and not out in the streets doing nonsense?

As the years went by, neighborhoods were so out of whack that it just became the norm to be down with the gang. Take it from me...growing up in my hood, if you didnt poke your chest out and show how hard you were then you were going to get fucked with on a daily basis. End of story. We had no choice...be down or be fucked. You just have to be smart enough to bob and weave your way through the bullshit...but you always had your "clique" that you were down for, no matter what. Without them, you were as good as dead.

Imagine growing up in this environment. MENTAL EXHAUSTION. Youngsters are helpless...some have had a strong enough upbringing to be able to rise above, but many are lost to the streets. So folks want to just ignore the contributing factors and label them as "scum"? HELL NO. They're not scum, they're victims.

Now it's ridiculously out of hand. Folks want to blame music and what have you...no...it's way deeper than that. White folks want to blame ghetto folk...no...blame your ancestors. They wanted it this way, they just didnt count on the homeys taking it to the suburbs. And those suburban kids that are sagging and so called "wiggers" are just like the kids from the hood, just not as extreme. They too are missing something at home that leads them to believe that the gangster lifestyle is cool.

Now...how do we smarten up folks in the hood?

i said in another thread:

if they would put shows like "the first 48 hours" in the white communities instead of just black/low income spots you'ld see how funny it is that there are so many blacks in prison when there should be more whites. you'll see the difference in the policein process and the judicial process...

anyway, the truth is people gonna believe whut they believe, whut you buy was sold to you from the time we/you were holdin mommy's hand to cross a room. it's an US/THEY kinda party

and no matter who we vote for, until we have money to buy a vote, we still won't get whut we want

"truth justice and the amerikkkan way"

this is a part of the glamorizin, keep showin how easy we can be beat (that's a good thing riiiiiiight?)

but we show how easy it is for us to be strong and get places we ain't allowed to go (and that's a bad thing)

we are taught to kill our own from the time we drop, it comes from slavery days

"dem nigras talkin 'bout runnin, day's gonna get us beat fo sho, best day be kilt fo massa chollie than

cause us trubles"

while those who would get free said "dem niggas gonna always stanup for chollie and keep us likes dem, beat and chained, i's says fuck 'em. kill dem or day kills us"

then the focus is on how we kill oneanother (for no reason)

when we tell our story (and there's a profit) IT IS A PROLLUM because if we keep gettin the story out there, the WORLD will start to hear it. (when the world started to hear rap they started to identify

with whut our personal struggles were/are and they wanna be niggas too asians, whites, latinos,

natives, whoever... this does not bode well for the oppressor types so the sell people on that

"they're glamorizin killin their own people" again, they're just tellin a story about whut it's like outside, and gettin paid to do it, like a warzone reporter (nobody says they glamorize wars, but they always findin one to report about)

Second of all, electro is THE original hip-hop/rap sound, well said by Afrika Bambaataa. Know you black music history a lot better next time! wink

Oh most definitely. And even on into the late 1980s when funk was becoming scarce because of that God awful adult contemporary R&B. lol There were still plenty of rap jams out there during the late 1980s from Egyptian Lover, LA Dream Team, Afro Rican, World Class Wrecking Cru (where Dr. Dre should have kept his ass lol), Sir Mix-A-Lot, Gigolo Tony, The Megatrons, etc. Shit hop was around during that era but it was underground. Only the jams made it to the radio.

first of all when i refer to 'techno' i'm talkin about the choice they have in music now

which is just as sucky as the choice of music then, and i see you suffer the same affliction lol

secondly, there's very little of eastcoast rap that i listened to that didn't have a funk or r&b track

connected to it EXCEPT for a few that had hella BUMP in it. and i know just enough 'BLACK' music history to remember them singin about you "flyin through the air in pantyhose" lol

First of all, Egyptian Lover was electro, NOT techno (although Detroit techno sounded a lot closer to electro before some Canadian & British folks started to speed it up and turned it to trance years later).

Second of all, electro is THE original hip-hop/rap sound, well said by Afrika Bambaataa. Know you black music history a lot better next time! wink

first of all when i refer to 'techno' i'm talkin about the choice they have in music now

which is just as sucky as the choice of music then, and i see you suffer the same affliction lol

secondly, there's very little of eastcoast rap that i listened to that didn't have a funk or r&b track

connected to it EXCEPT for a few that had hella BUMP in it. and i know just enough 'BLACK' music history to remember them singin about you "flyin through the air in pantyhose" lol

i did spend a lot of time listenin to 'beatbox' either so STAY TECHNO BABYBOY!!! lol

The hell with "Rapper's Delight", Fatback had a better one that same year. Much funkier. biggrin

And these thugs continue their behaviour when they get out of prison. The only difference is, they have women and then they have men in secret. And who do you think is fucking these drag queens while they are dressed in drag? It sure as hell ain't the queens because we wouldn't have something that looks that fish.

The "techno" bullshit today is a disgrace to the old stuff. And back in the day when the old stuff that was released that is now considered as techno, it wasn't even labeled as techno back then. It was simply either rap or hip hop because it was brand new and they didn't have a label for it yet. When "Planet Rock" first came out in 1982, nobody called it techno because there was no such term back then. They just simply called it either rap or hip hop. Same with Egyptian Lover a few years later and his bad ass was very talented making songs and rhythms of his own from scratch without depending on other people's records as the main foundation of his songs. Most rap acts did the same thing in those days and the few that used someone else's song as their foundation, re-recorded the song. They didn't use the instrumental of the actual original artist's song for their background. For instance, "Planet Rock" is not Kraftwerk's record playing in the background. It was re-recorded by the Soul Sonic Force with their own instruments. This argument can be used to show that older rappers were actually talented and either had musical capabilities, or had the good sense to hire someone to make music behind their raps. Shit hoppers have no talent whatsoever other than talking a bunch of foolish bullshit over someone else's record and that may be a reason for them coming up with other labels such as "techno" so that people can't compare them to actual talented people and make them look like the no talent idiots they really are.

It wasn't until shit hop came along in the 1990s until I heard the word techno being thrown around mainly because the thugs didn't want their type of music used in the same breath as that "disco rap shit" as they liked to call it. Anything that wasn't boring as hell and didn't have an ignorant thug attitude to it, they wanted to disassociate themselves from it. I think homophobia had a lot to do with that also because since the disco era, which shattered the image of us being a bunch of dorky ass classical music listening bitches, they know we like to party even stronger and harder than straight people so it's their way of disassociating themselves from us even if it means they become the ones being into the dorky slow tempoed only stuff. Oh no, they must not be associated with anything even similar to disco because that's "fag" music ya know. Even though 90% of them are closet rough trade who fuck around in secret.

Well, the shit from the 1990s wasn't funk either. It was someone else's funk behind their foolish talking and they even had to slow the tempo of the original record down behind their raps because they didn't have the talent to rap over something faster without getting tongue tied. Felix and Jarvis from the early 1980s would have put them to shame. That Dr. Dre album from the 1990s that everyone raves so much about, was nothing but someone else's music behind his raps slowed down to a pace that he could simply "talk" over. When you slow that funk down to a Lawrence Welk tempo, it's no longer funk. That's why I say he was much better when he was in the World Class Wrecking Cru. Some actual original new "music" was being created back then and it was jams fast enough to be played on a dance floor. It wasn't something for thugged out Lawrence Welk listeners to simply "bob their heads" to.
