I agree with that statement...but there is something to be said for the negative "climate" & "reflection" being glamorized thu popular culture while the positve goes unspoken, especially in hip hop...there aren't many statements being made along the lines of "Fuck the Police", "911 Is a Joke" anymore...its all about "this is what I have, this is what I did to get it, fuck you if you aint got it like me"...hip hop is not only music, it's a lifestyle...same could be said for rock & roll, but the r&r lifestyle seldom goes outside the lines of self destructive behavior...I'm not blaming hip hop as a whole but there is a culture within it that puts more worth on power, money & possessions than it does on self worth---or even that without power, money & possessions you have no self worth...there was a time when hustling to survive was a struggle... now hustling is considered cool, so cool that even those that would never have to struggle insisit on living a lifestyle that says otherwise

that being said, music, movies and other forms of pop culture are not the core problem but there's no denying that they help perpetuate the problem and do little to offer solutions

How is it you feel?

No, see you got me totally mixed up. True enough, the older white generation hated rock and roll becuase it was considered "devil" music because of that rhythm that makes you wanna shake ass, roll hips, roll titties, and anything else sexual looking they could think of. It came from black music and they didn't want their white kids listening to it.

I'm the exact opposite. I love the "devil" rhythm that makes you wanna shake ass and the reason I hate shit hop, even more than the rediculous criminal images that's in it, is the fact that that "devil" rhythm is gone and 90% of it since the mid 1990s is as slow and rhythmless as a damn Lawrence Welk concert. The older generations said that black people were responsible for putting the rhythm in music so if that's the case, I hate shit hop because it's not "black" enough. If rhythm equals black by their standards, then rhythmless equals white and going by rhythm, shit hop is "whiter" than Lawrence Welk, Barbara Striesand, and Slim Whitman combined. I'm the total opposite. I don't bitch because white music has been "blackened", I bitch because black music has been "whitened".

I ain't got no damn kids and don't want any and if I did have any, they probably would have ended up interracial. But you are right about one thing, I do wish white kids would drop shit hop. Why? Well hell, anything that crossed over has usually been weakened for white audiences from how it previously was. I wish white kids would drop it so maybe folks could go back to throwin' down hard like they used to before all this massive crossover. But then again, even if white kids did drop shit hop, it has dominated since the mid 1990s already and now there is a whole generation of black kids who are just as rhythmless as white kids. Talk about folks getting the last laugh. The stuff shirts that were against rock and roll would be getting the last laugh these days because the rhythm has been taken back out of the music like it used to be and now they also have young black kids killing each other over meaningless bullshit and also bragging about "keeping it real" and "staying in the ghetto" as if that's where they were meant to be in the first place. Shit hop is a white racist's dream come true and I'd love to see it die if nothing more than just to piss them off. They're the ones benefitting from the bullshit, not the idiots making it or listening to it.

I agree with Vainandy.
Hip hop music has got to be some of the most boring music ever created.
That damn mid-tempo rhythm not only makes every song sound almost exactly alike, but it's stagnant enough to make even zombies yawn.

I've seen DJs try to mix old stuff with new stuff and it sounds absolutely horrible. They have slowed the music down on the old song to a snail paced tempo that drags and they still have to speed up the tempo on the new song to the point that the vocals sound like chipmunks. I've never seen anything like it. Talk about going backwards into time instead of forwards.

And to think, it started out as a party genre and the rap jams of the early years fit well right alongside funk. Hell, most rap was even faster than funk back then. It was damn near at a disco tempo. Most of the records were 12 Inch Singles back then and those were made for clubs. There was rarely a slow 12 Inch Single of any genre made. Oh, how that genre fell quick once it crossed over. It became slow and dull enough to be played at nursing homes during musical chairs. lol

Oh most definitely. And even on into the late 1980s when funk was becoming scarce because of that God awful adult contemporary R&B. lol There were still plenty of rap jams out there during the late 1980s from Egyptian Lover, LA Dream Team, Afro Rican, World Class Wrecking Cru (where Dr. Dre should have kept his ass lol), Sir Mix-A-Lot, Gigolo Tony, The Megatrons, etc. Shit hop was around during that era but it was underground. Only the jams made it to the radio.

Are you saying that West Coast hip hop was better when we were represented by these guys rather than NWA, Ice T, Compton's Most Wanted, DJ Quik and Too Short?

All that stuff you listed is boring as hell and is when hip hop became shit hop. And as for Ice T, the only thing he made that sounds worth a damn is when he was on "Reckless" with Chris "The Glove" Taylor and David Storrs. That slow stuff you listed belongs in a nursing home. evillol

This shit has been going on in some form or fashion since we damn near got on and off the boat. neutral

One of the third rails in the African American Community is to dare to speak of Black men foibles; Lord knows they are very good at pointing out everybody elses faults but their own. Like all men irrespective of race, men have a unique talent of blaming or flipping the script to others for their mistakes... until they get too old to keep the blame lie game going and then its too late.

The hyper macho bullshit act Black men have been playing for decades has put many in a grave. Behind all this macho bullshit is a mask of fear and shame; Black men fear success, failure, competition, and white people... terribly afraid of white folks. Instead of doing things that are life saving and giving, far too many black males have chosen destruction. Or as I've mentioned in previous thread, they've built an imaginary enviroment to bolster some type of illusion of power based on terror. One of the reasons why we are at this point is because of our willingness to lie, keep quiet, and pass on dumb destructive "logic" from generation to generation. We've lied for our brothers, husbands, our man, relatives, sons, and complete strangers. We've made too many excuses far too long.

There's no doubt there are complex issues and reasons why "we've come to this dark and lonely place". But still the underlining issue has always been what I've said above, until I see Black men standing up and stop making excuses, hiding behind grand conspiracies, or changing the subject... this mess shall continue. It's for black men to take responisbility and figure it out on their own, no support. I won't be holding my breath.....

the fear that black folks will rise above the stigma that was geared to keep blacks in fear is the fear of most god fearin white folks in this country, BECAUSE every since we 'got off the boat' we have been seen as just this far (---) from breakin the chains of inferiority/slavery and turn our attention on retribution on those who have been our oppressors from day one, BUT we are easily conqured

by the fact that we are dead from within. no matter how close we get to breakin the chain/cycle

we are put back in place by those of us who are willin to work against us for fear that they cannot survive without a master.

no matter how responsible we choose to be and act it doesn't pass the test with the oppressor

Serously...I dont want folks to think I condone all this stuff. Anyone who goes and shoots some innocent person so they can join a gang is an idiot and deserves just punishment. That aint the way it was done in my day.

You didnt join a gang because it was hip. You joined because they were your family. You didnt wear Dickies because Ice Cube and MC Ren did. You wore Dickies because (back then) you could get two pairs for the price of one pair of Levi's. You didnt "sag" your pants because you wanted to...you sagged because your pants were too short and you didnt want to be teased for "flooding".

I could go on and on. Bottom line is that the shit does need to stop. The way this country is, I dont think it ever will.

Those are just rap groups from the late 1980s because we were discussing that era. Some good ones from the early 1980s were:

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five

Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde

Felix and Jarvis

Pretty Tony

Freestyle

Soul Sonic Force

Newcleus

Run DMC

Whodini

Divine Sounds

Blowfly

Kurtis Blow

Rockmaster Scott and The Dynamic Three

The Disco Four

As for the term "techno" or even "electro" for that matter, those terms didn't exist during those days. I never heard those terms until the 1990s when shit hoppers (rappers with a rediculous criminal image who simply talk over a slow dorky ass Lawrence Welk tempoed beat) had to come up with some terms to distinguish themselves away from the good rap that wasn't as dull as them or in other words, what they had previously called "that disco shit" because they were too dull to like the good stuff. Plus, people were making comparisons to them and the previous rappers with the argument of "what happened". I mean "what in the hell happened to rappers who could actually come up with melodies of their own and create a song from scratch from the ground up with instruments rather than sampling someone else's song, slowing it down, and simply talking over a slow dull ass beat". That's when I heard terms like "techno" and "electro" being used because they couldn't answer those questions without admitting that they were a bunch of no talent assholes that didn't even deserve a record deal because they had no musical ability whatsoever or at least the good sense to hire someone that could create music behind them like previous rappers did.

The stuff that they later called techno or electro in later years was the majority of rap that made it onto R&B radio during the 1980s, especially the early part of the decade. There was slow "talking over a slow beat" shit hop back then but most R&B radio stations didn't play it because they saw it for what it really was...a bunch of "nothing". It wasn't until young white boys got into to that slow dull shit (mainly because the cussing fascinated them) that R&B radio even considered playing the bullshit because by then, even the white stations were considering playing it. But no, back when rap had a majority black audience, that slow bullshit rarely made it onto the R&B airwaves.

As for Dr. Dre should have stayed in The World Class Wrecking Cru, hell yeah he should have. Songs like "The Fly" are actual "songs" made from the ground up and not just some boring ass rediculous talking over someone else's record. And also for imagewise also. What was so wrong with their look? Because they wore make-up or could be called "gay"? Well hell, gay is the coolest thing you can be and only gutter trash is anti-gay which is another reason, and a huge reason to hate shit hop. Anything that's anit-gay, I hate with a passion and every fiber of my body. It's better to simply look the part of being gay than to look like a damn gutter trash criminal who 90% of fuck and get their dicks sucked by queens and then have the nerve to call themselves straight. Oh, there's a lot involved when it comes to hating shit hop and the massive homophobia in the so-called genre is probably the biggest reason I hate it. Any self respecting gay person would hate the hell out of it to unless they are a gay version of an Uncle Tom. evillol

The hyper macho bullhshit act Black men have been playing for decades has put many in a grave. Behind all this macho bullshit is a mask of fear and shame; Black men fear, success, failure, competition, and white people... terrible afraid of white folks. Instead of doing things that are life saving and giving, far too many black males have chosen destruction. Or as I've mentioned in previous thread, they've built an imaginary enviroment to bolster some type of illusion of power based on terror. One of the reasons why we are at this point is because of our willingness to lie keep quite and pass on dumb destructive "logic" from generation to generation.

I won't be holding my breath.....

the fear that black folks will rise above the stigma that was geared to keep blacks in fear is the fear of most god fearin white folks in this country, BECAUSE every since we 'got off the boat' we have been seen as just this far (---) from breakin the chains of inferiority/slavery and turn our attention on retribution on those who have been our oppressors from day one, BUT we are easily conqured

by the fact that we are dead from within. no matter how close we get to breakin the chain/cycle

we are put back in place by those of us who are willin to work against us for fear that they cannot survive without a master.

no matter how responsible we choose to be and act it doesn't pass the test with the oppressor

instead it's their que to kill as many of us as possible. look at our history.

What TD3 speaks is the truth. All this running around idolizing criminals is not getting anyone anywhere but deeper in a hole that the white racists want them to stay in. People like to confuse being criminal with being masculine these days when the truth is, straight men don't run around acting fools like this. Only criminals and what do criminals usually end up doing? They usually end up going to prison and raping other men to satisfy their urges while they are locked up and continue fooling around with men when they get out of prison because an orgasm is an orgasm no matter who's giving it.

Yes, white racists fear that black people will break the chains of inferiority. That's absolutely true. But who do you think this criminal image is scaring? It's certainly not white racists that's for sure. They're not around it at all. They simply see it from a distance on TV and live in their own neighborhoods far away from it. And the few times when they do come face to face contact with it, they are only scared briefly. They know that if anything happens to them, they will have the person locked up in prison. No, they're not scared at all and the image doesn't intimidate them at all. In fact, they love the image. They see it as black people staying in their place as an uneducated criminal who stays in their place who thinks about worthless, meaningless things such as who's a "real nigga" and who ain't. The only people that suffer from the criminal image are other black people that have to live around these idiots and the few white people that actually have friends and come into these areas to be around their black friends. But no, it's not hurting the racists whatsoever.

The criminal image certainly isn't scaring the racists either. Hey, commit a criminal act against them and get thrown in prison. That's what prisons are for. What scares the hell out of them is someone like Obama. An intelligent black man who speaks intellegently and can argue with them about things that actually matter instead of a bunch of ignorant bullshit such as "who's a real nigga and who ain't". Hell, just look at the Tea Party. There was no such thing as the Tea Party before Obama became president. A black man becoming president scared the hell out of those fools. Where is the massive picketing of these shit hop criminal clowns from the white racists? There isn't any picketing because the racists like what they are doing. They are "in their place" being ignorant and killing each other.

Gunsnhalen

I Appreciate the discussion in here wink , sorry I have been away & not really giving a good response.

I Happen to love Hip-Hop music as I said in the ‘‘so this is all new to me thread''

But i am starting to hate ''gangster'' rap & well even more dislike rappers like Lil Wayne & all those. There is some great underground hip-hop like death grips... I guess I’m always into the more political hip-hop.

But as Stoned said Hip-Hop is a way of life maybe more so than any other music [Besides Metal but that is a whole different story: lol: ]

And people think it's cool to dress gangsta, to drive reckless, have all the bitches you can, beat up people over dumb shit. Act hard, never put on a smile, and talk like you never graduated from hooked on phonics... The list goes on

I grew up with some guys who where smart.. i mean SMART!, They where in the gifted & talented program. And in the AP classes, but they got in the ''lifestyle'' or the ''cough cough'' wannabe life style. And there new awesome friend's where like nahhh son, naw nukka schooL? Man fuck school school be for like fags & shit man fuck this shit let's go smoke a blunt & ride around pick up some hoes & act a fool.

And most of them either didn't graduate or got a low GPA & Had to copy off me when we had tests confused

And now there.. Well there nothing & it's sad. confused

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen
