X-Men/Teen Titans: Apocalypse Now vs. God Loves, Man Kills: Which was awesomer?

Remember how mind-blowing both of these were back in the good old days? Pick your favorite!

Both of these came out 30 years ago, in 1982. That was a good year.

The X-Men graphic novel was beautiful, and it featured art and story that were every bit as pivotal and defining to the X-Men mythos as the Dark Phoenix storyline and Days of Future Past. This book was clearly the model for the first two X-Men movies, both of which attempted but failed to capture the magic that this book has.

Then there was the team-up of the two biggest (at the time) teams in comics, the Teen Titans and the X-Men.

Only $2 for all that story and all those characters? Seeing the "#1" on this made me hope that there would be more, but that was not to be.

I'm going to give a slight edge to the X-Men/Teen Titans crossover, because that Walt Simonson art was amazing and the confluence of all those heroes against those two all-powerful villains was killer. But it's almost impossible to pick which one of these I love more.

Haven't posted on here for ages but couldn't see a thread about X-men and not post something! I haven't read X-Men/Teen Titans (yet) but absolutely love God Loves, Man Kills. Shame Perez didn't get a chance to carry on X-Men/Teen Titans though.

I've had both of those actually lol

In fact, about a month ago, I downloaded God Loves, Man Kills, just to read it again. It wins hands down.

I read both X-Men and Teen Titans regularly when that crossover came out. And I immediately noticed the big flaw in that story was that Changeling could never change into that giant dragon-thing to transport everyone. The bigger the animal, the more difficult it is for him to assume that form which is why you almost never see him change into anything bigger than an elephant (at least back then). Chris Claremont, being a Marvel writer didn't know that.

So because of that mistake, I give the slight edge to God Loves, Man Kills.

Hey there! Yeah, that's definitely an interesting take, but I think I could no-prize it by saying that, since it takes place out of regular continuity for both series, and takes place in an alternate universe where the X-Men and the Teen Titans share a planet, then that universe's Gar Logan might in fact have that ability.

On the other hand, one flaw in the God Loves, Man Kills story is that there is no clear place for it to fit in with the X-Men continuity. To fit it into continuity, you have to find a time when Kitty Pryde is going by the codename Ariel and wearing that costume, and at a time when the X-Men weren't already embroiled in an adventure in their own regular comic. That's really difficult to do. That's a slight flaw in it.

Another (really slight) bone of contention with it: Why the hell does Magneto just happen to be walking through that playground at the beginning?

I picked up both back in the day, as the kids say, and I still have them boxed and sitting in the corner. I can vaguely recall the God Loves...outline, and I honestly can't remember one thing about the TT/Xmen story, but I always really loved Walt Simonson's work, so I'd probably give it the edge based solely on that.

I bought both when they came out, read them many times each, and sold them 5 or 6 years later.

A few years after that I bought them both again and have also read those copies many times over.

I love them both, they are two excellent, one and done, single issue stories.

It's a tough call but I give it to God Loves, Man Kills.

Epic!

cool

His run on THOR was legendary...as great as Peter David's HULK.

Haha, I still have my one no-prize that Marvel mailed to me decades ago. I don't remember how I won it though.

I was a huge X-Men fan back then and I don't remember having any problems with any part of the story. I think all books run into continuity issues if the characters appear anywhere else outside the main title so I will let that bit slide. If that bothers you then it's a good thing you don't read comics on a regular basis now when characters like Spider-Man, Wolverine and Batman appear in six different books each month. nuts

I want to see it because the owner of Mile High Comics is one of the guys the director follows around the convention. I'm on the Mile High Comics mailing list so I'm always getting emails from the owner talking about his family, fighting the weather in Denver, etc. They are very personal. So it's almost like a friend of mine is in the movie. If he wasn't in it, I most likely wouldn't care either.

Stan Lee launches Comic Convention

Calling all legends. Please report to the convention floor.

After seven decades in the world of comic book entertainment, you would think that 89 year-old Stan "The Man" Lee would eventually hang up the cape and call it a career.

Think again.

Last year's surprise convention success, Comikaze Expo, has a powerful new partner and an awesome new name. Joining forces with the godfather of Marvel mayhem, the new-kid-on-the-block is now "Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo presented by POW! Entertainment."

Positioned as an affordable alternative to the somewhat chaotic and far more expensive San Diego Comic-con, Comikaze was founded by CEO Regina Carpinelli and debuted in November 2011. Despite its newbie status, it made an immediate splash with over 40,000 attendees visiting the Los Angeles Convention Center for a celebration of all things comic, movies, TV, and games.

With a slate of movies based on his creations, including The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, and your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Lee believes the L.A.-based Con is a perfect match.

"We saw an opportunity to creatively take this event to new heights through our partnership and we seized it," Lee said in a press release. "The inauguration of Comikaze Expo demonstrated the mighty appetite and eager response from fans to experience a Los Angeles-based event that provides a variety of comic book and pop culture entertainment."

With more announcements about events, guests, and panels yet to come (most likely while mixing in another Marvel movie cameo or two), it looks like Mr. Lee, who was a guest of last year's convention, has only just begun. Excelsior!
