ASHLEY JUDD SMACKDOWN....Damn http://www.thedailybeast....rance.html
Holy shit, she tells it!
excerpts:
One: When I am sick for more than a month and on medication (multiple rounds of steroids), the accusation is that because my face looks puffy, I have “clearly had work done,” with otherwise credible reporters with great bravo “identifying” precisely the procedures I allegedly have had done.
Two: When my skin is nearly flawless, and at age 43, I do not yet have visible wrinkles that can be seen on television, I have had “work done,” with media outlets bolstered by consulting with plastic surgeons I have never met who “conclude” what procedures I have “clearly” had. (Notice that this is a “back-handed compliment,” too—I look so good! It simply cannot possibly be real!)
She goes on to point out the classic sexism in the way the media has beent talking about her and how much of it is coming from women themselves.
Very interesting smackdown if you ask me.

I'm loving Ashley Judd in the new show Missing and I didn't read the article but that being said, she looks great but there are obvious signs of aging. I see wrinkles. "not a fan" yeah...ok

oh goodness. You proved the point of her article. |

I should read the article.
I got the impression people were saying she looks so good she must have had work done? "not a fan" yeah...ok

I get the point she's trying to make - and agree. It's just too bad that she did it in such a labored way. Just say what's on your mind, Ashley, and you'll have a better shot at having people actually read the whole thing.
You're a smart girl - you don't have to try so hard to sound like it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I see her ad for her show all the time and I always think, "She looks old as all fuck now".
But I didn't realize she was 43, so makes sense now.

I just read the article and I don't believe I proved the point of the article at all. Just because I said "I see wrinkles" ?? I was only trying to say I don't think she's had work done. I suppose commenting at all about work or no work falls in line with what she was saying.... I think she looks great, period. "not a fan" yeah...ok

you go ashley!! well written piece. you are obviously talented and intelligent
excerpt . . . However, the recent speculation and accusations in March feel different, and my colleagues and friends encouraged me to know what was being said. Consequently, I choose to address it because the conversation was pointedly nasty, gendered, and misogynistic and embodies what all girls and women in our culture, to a greater or lesser degree, endure every day, in ways both outrageous and subtle. The assault on our body image, the hypersexualization of girls and women and subsequent degradation of our sexuality as we walk through the decades, and the general incessant objectification is what this conversation allegedly about my face is really about. . . . . . .
This abnormal obsession with women’s faces and bodies has become so normal that we (I include myself at times—I absolutely fall for it still) have internalized patriarchy almost seamlessly. We are unable at times to identify ourselves as our own denigrating abusers, or as abusing other girls and women.
A case in point is that this conversation was initially promulgated largely by women; a sad and disturbing fact. (That they are professional friends of mine, and know my character and values, is an additional betrayal.) [Edited 4/10/12 9:07am]

I read the article and you didn't prove her point.
She looks her age, she is getting old, I am getting old, we are all getting old. Big deal.
I agree about people making accusations about having this or that done and being ridiculed being lame but come on, we live in a culture that is totally based on bullying and it's fully acceptable.
You see it everywhere, story lines in movies and shows, it's all over the media, sites dedicated to making fun of others even in threads on here.
And I agree totally with what Genesia said about her trying too hard to show how MENSA she is. Being so verbrose can be somewhat nauseating.

Painfully so. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I hate the Judd's. They are so full of themselves I can't stand any of them. Ashley Judd thinks she's the shiz and can't stand it when someone says anything negative about her (the audacity!) Please. I think their story is inspiring, but can't stand a one of them!

I cannot stand the bitch.
The character is demanding. In response to "pulling strings" in one show, she barks "well pull some more", wtf are you lady?, ggeeeezuzzz you don't just walk into a foreign country and think you can do what the hell you like looking for your dumbass brat of a kid.
Sorry, I cannot stand the show. Watched it once to see what it is all about, never again. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Ashley Judd bothers me for some reason. In fact something about the Judds strike me odd.

Something is wrong with them. They whine alot about their "hard" lives. Pu-lease. Have you ever seen that show they did on Oprah? The mother whines, Winona whines and then in her latest book, Ashley's whining. I find it hard to believe that Oprah actually wanted them on her network. I thought Oprah would see right through them but I guess not. It's so hard to be rich and catered to.
