Favorite miniseries? I just finished watching The Feast Of All Saints for the second time. Of course the book, (Anne Rice), was much better but aside from some uneven performances, (especially Marcel, whose acting was nearly as dreadful as his accent), this series was pretty good. Jennifer Beals, Ozzie Davis, Ben Vereen and Pam Grier were the best IMO. It captures a very interesting time in history very well.
My favorite, however, is a toss up between Shogun and The Thorn Birds...
I have always adored Richard Chamberlain but I must say, the whole damn cast of this series turned in stellar performances. Stayed close to the book too.
This one had me crying even moreso than the book.
Anybody else have some favorites? Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I remember "North & South" was interesting.
Whatever happened to the good old-fashioned TV miniseries? They really don't make them anymore, do they? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I was wondering the same thing. I used to look forward to them because they were usually interesting, high quality productions.
The only thing I can think of is they probably moved away from it because of production costs. Much cheaper to produce crap. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Roots is tops.
Followed closely by one of the most influential miniseries of all time. Before there were Rome, The Tudors, The Borgias, and yes, Game Of Thrones, there was I, Claudius. Cersei had nothing on the Cesearan matriarch Livia.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention two very different but no less influential miniseries. The first was a "microseries" serial, The Clone Wars, created by the creator of Samurai Jack and with one of the best "theme songs" for a TV show ever. It had more heart and a better plot than the prequels overall.
The second is, Jesus of Nazareth. Landmark TV.

and I agree about Marcel's accent in Feast of Saints was DREADFUL with a capital D! He was trying so hard to have a French accent but kept lapsing back into talking like a New Yorker

That was a classic as well. Maybe the most underrated miniseries in television. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
