Nadya Suleman Is Ashamed Of Food Stamps

After vowing never to go on public assistance, octuplet mom Nadya Suleman is accepting food stamps because of dire financial straits. “I still am working as hard as I possibly can to support them,’’ she told TODAY on Thursday about going on public assistance. “I made that call reluctantly.

“I feel ashamed, but who cares how I feel. It’s 100 percent about my children.” Suleman told NBC News that for the past two months, she has received $2,000 a month in food assistance from a program in California that gives help to large families making less than $119,000 a year in order to sustain her family of 14 children. Suleman had six children before giving birth to octuplets in 2009 through in-vitro fertilization.

She cried as she made the phone call to sign up for food stamps, Suleman told TODAY Moms in an exclusive backstage interview. She hopes to be off the assistance soon.
“People are saying, ‘Nadya, people are thinking you have been on (assistance),’’’ she told Matt Lauer. “’Who cares if you even do this? They thought you were on it already.’ My priority is my children — their health, their well-being, their safety. I’m giving myself another 2 months to be on it.”

Suleman recently posed topless for a British magazine, which netted her $8,000. According to the Department of Agriculture, it takes roughly $9,000 a month to support 14 children.

I agree she was selfish but I wouldn't call her an idiot. She initially had resources in the form of a job, extended family members, volunteers from the community so she probably didn't think things would unravel so quickly. I agree the kids should be monitored closely but that's because there are so many of them and they are at a very vulnerable age where something could go wrong, not because of Nadya. Nobody was concerned about the 6 children she had before the octuplets were born.

Also, if you remember, she did this because she wanted one more child and the doctor told her she had X number of embryos (4 i think) and that if only one were implanted the rest would be discarded.

With invitro, often 2 up to 4 embryos are implanted because the risk is so high that most will not take and a miscarriage will occur. Doctors implant 2 hoping that one will survive or they implant 4 hoping for at least twins.

I read a story in which some woman put a plastic bag over her infants head and placed the infant in the trash then took a cell phone pic and sent it to her ex-bf/baby daddy. I also saw on the news a woman who suffocated her two toddlers, placed htem in her car and forced the car into a pond then called the cops to claim she had been struck by a car. To me, those are women that deserve public scorn and death threats. Nadya doesn't.

I feel sorry for her and the kids. I feel sorry for the kids because the media will be on them for probably the rest of their lives. I feel sorry for Nadya because I think the hate and ridicule and death threats may send her over the edge. If that happens we all will be responsible. There is never a reason to wish hate and death on woman for having babies IF she treats those babies with love. If she were abusing them then yah, burn her ass but this simply isn't the case. People just got mad because they thought she would go on welfare. I say so what. My tax dollars go to kill people I don't know in countries I've never been to so what do I care about a welfare momma?
