Well, let's start from the beginning. The original title was "Quest" and Eddie's co-star was to be Keenen Ivory Wayans.

It reminds me of the Paramount comedies of the 1930's/40's and Iam sure John Landis was aware of this.

I do like it, but like a few other John Landis films I can mention, it runs out of steam by the end. The most remarkable thing about the movie is that it was an all black cast and as this was before Spike Lee's and john Singletons influence on Hollywood, it was "GASP", not about race! (That is not a dig at Lee or Singleton, but rather Hollywood's somewhat cashing in on their famous films).

Also Eddie's character was a refreshing change of pace for him, whilst Arsenio was surprisenly solid in his role aswell.

The all Black cast at that time was just great-they did well. Didn't Landis also do Thriller?

My all time favorite scenes:

1) SOUL GLO!!!!!! "You got that Soul Gloooooo! Just let it shine throoooooo yeah, just let that soulllll glooooooo whooooooo!!! Soul Glo." Eriq LaSalle had me rolling looking in the side view mirror spraying that activator. falloff

2) McDowell's. disbelief falloff Enough said. I, till this very day, call McDonald's McDowell's.

3) Samuel L. Jackson with those bulging eyeballs. I swear he looked high as a kite for that little scene. spit

4) Arsenio as the reverend at that benefit. "Girl somebody ought to put you on a plate and sock you up with a biscuit."

5) Randy Watson. Sexual Chocolate. Enough said.

6) John Amos. "When I say he's got his own money, HE'S GOT HIS OWN MONEY!!!!" And also when he tripped up the steps trying to stall Akeem from leaving before the king got there. Hilarious!!! falloff

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Harlepolis

Only one of the most quotable films in the 20th century cloud9

And lets talk about how good ol' John Amos robbed every scene, in sunny daylight at that.
