My previous upstairs neighbor flooded my bathroom more than once... I had them evicted.
That mess f---s with the quality of your life and if it keeps happening it grounds to have them removed for damage caused to your things and the building itself.

My upstairs neighbor's fridge was leaking a few months ago, but thankfully she cleaned it up before it could cause too much damage. Thank goodness I was home and noticed the leak. I still have a foot long section of discolored ceiling though.
Several years ago I was living beneath of family of honest to God pigs and my whole living and dining area got flooded because one of their brats left the water running in the tub.
Several years before that I was living beneath a hood rat who got evicted and turned on all of the faucets in the apt. before leaving and locking the doors. You would think I'd stop living in condos and apartments or at least get a unit on the second floor by now, but no.
You should sue the bastids!
Btw, how comes you got rid of your roommate? I missed that news. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Sorry to hear that! I hope you get a full recovery of all your stuff, or full compensation for it.
But on the bright side, will it get that slovenly roommate of yours out earlier?

I'll see what I can do, but my landlord is impossible.... I've wanted to move closer to a Maine road...I'm kinda outta the cut and want to get closer to new Orleans but still in metairie. I've wanted a place closer to veterans blvd than I am.....I think I might take this oooritunity to get outta dodge.... First ill talk to him today...he was inky able to send his minions in yesterday, he .lives across the lake(semi-far away, so he wasn't here. But I show him ALL Ccaroet is drenched...in BOTH room....the doorjam is warped...the walls r gonna BURST with mold without HUGE sections replace..... Thusbis gonna blow.

Talked to landlord, carpets getting replaced...theandlord himself is a contractor, so I hope he knows the benefits of ensuring all water damage is fixed...being a contractor, I'm sure he also knows how to cut corners. This is his own building though, so hopefully he sides with protecting his own asset.

I have renter's insurance and it's the cheapest of all my bills. I have it with Geico for about $20 a month. Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah, renter's insurance is pretty inexpensive. I'm in (very expensive) New York and mine is about $25-$30/month. (I pay it off in a lump sum otherwise they charge me a $3.50 service charge every month.) I believe it also covers your stuff if it's stolen outside your apartment - in certain situations, like if your car is broken into.
When I asked them about my Prince collection (because a lot of the stuff is out of print) they said that I should get it appraised. Otherwise I'd probably just get reimbursed at the going rate for cds or vinyl. I'm thinking, "where am I going to find someone who can accurately appraise the value of a 16 track Goldn*gga and Sexy Dancer (Long Version) on vinyl?" The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I worry about that too. That's why it gets on nerves when people say to just let a thief have what they want because items can be replaced. The hell they can. You sure as hell can't replace vinyl and a thief would have to kill me before I'd give it up to them.
In a way, I'm kinda glad that shit hop dominates the scene now because my ex brother inlaw was a former blues DJ and when he got broken into, they took his stereo equipment which he had replaced by the insurance so in a way, the thieves did him a favor because his stereo equipment was old, worn out, and outdated anyway and he got new stuff afterwards. But they had his records and tapes thrown all over the floor like they were looking for something they wanted to steal but didn't like the music he had so they didn't take one single record. Lucky you, in California you have to have renter's insurance.
It's not expensive though.
