It is depressing. Unless we develop a means to travel faster than light safely it's never gonna happen.

When I say safely, how do you dodge objects in uncharted space travelling faster than the speed of light? We have no maps of places to avoid. How do we know our route won't cross paths with a planet, comet or asteroid?

You gotta "split" matter and travel through it by being faster than any possible movement if it's molecules' electrons at any given time! geek

I think it has something to do with simulating infinate mass (which would take infinite energy lol ). The Sun is so massive for example, that it bends space-time around it ever so slightly. Scientist know this because during a solar eclipse, they knew one of the stars behind the sun, just behind it's horizon would not be visible to us unless there was this hour-glassing of space due to the Sun's mass. Just as Einstein had predicted, when the solar eclipse took place, they were able to detect the star at the very edge of the Sun's horizon when in reality it was below the horizon on the other side--this ability to see the star was due to the Sun's mass bending space-time.

If you can bend space-time enough, you 'fold' it and can surf over it. But again---this would reqiure tremendous mass, gravity, and well....energy. We just don't have that.

^ Who are these people?

Anyway, I'm calling dibbs on the waterworld. Unfortunately it'll take 1.5 million years to get there but who knows maybe we'll catch a ride.
