"Are You ThereGod?, It's Me Margaret" was a great book. My friends in junior high loved reading teen novels...we were the nerdy crew. And I also read "Black Boy" by Wright at age 9 or so...I was intrigued by the authors that Wright quoted.

But before that, we had a set of books by Walt Disney that had a lot of Disney stories in them: Cinderella, Uncle Remus' Stories, Sleeping Beauty, etc. I actually still have them!

Judy Blume was the best nod

okay -- a lot of duplicates here:

Judy Blume's "Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing," et al.
"Are You there God? It's Me, Margaret"
"From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler"
"Where the Wild Things Are"
"Harold and the Purple Crayon"
"Stuart Little" -- I can't belive what they did to him for the movie -- disgrace!
"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"
Bios of JFK, RFK, Jackie Kennedy, Helen Keller

That too!!! COMPLETELY forgot about choose your own adventure! That reminds me of the Annual Book Fair -- that was always so much fun, a book store right in the cafeteria.

And the monthly Scholastic order form. I always wanted more than Mom would allow. Anyone remember "Hot Dog!" and "Dynamite!" the Scholastic magazines?

Thanks!
Those books were the greatest. But, once you read them once or twice they weren't fun anymore because you knew what was going to happen.

Those clubs were great and aided me in building my childhood collection...my own personal collection. I still have a few of them...the ones that don't stink from being in a musty basement, that is wink

Yeah, that was the let-down. But they were still cool, nonetheless.

I read a LOT of the already mentioned books so I won't repeat them all again, but another mystery series I used to like were the Trixie Belden books.

She was like Nancy Drew but I liked Trixie Belden better for some reason.

Someone above mentioned the Scholastic books order form you'd get in school and where you could place orders for books to buy...I used to LIVE for those! I was a total bookworm all the way back to very early childhood, and those Scholastic book orders were one of my favorite things. I loved it when I'd come into class and see that brown cardboard box sitting on the teacher's dest with the little blue open book picture printed on it. I knew what that meant! smile

Sitting through class until the teacher handed out everybody's books used to be torture. lol

I'm so grateful to my mom for teaching me to love reading.

I used to love Mad Libs. I would laugh SO hard when they were finished, like it was the funniest thing I had ever read. I've done them recently, and they're really not that funny now. lol I guess I'm old. I've moved on to more sophisticated humor, like poop and butt jokes.

Do you remember the songs and the stories? I always remember the story about the little, bratty girl in "Ladies First" and the one called "It's Alright to Cry". lol
