I'm actually looking at dresses for the first time as a summer option. I'm nervous about it because I'm not a dress person so I know as soon as I wear one everyone will comment or ask me what the special occasion is. confused

as for how to deal with shorts making your legs look shorter and heavier....I'd have to say it might be shoe related. The casual nature of shorts usually pairs them with sneakers or flip flops, my guess would be to find a wedge heel sandal or something that shows a lot of your ankle and foot but not necessarily a flip flop.

shrug but I'm no fashionista so....proceed with caution. smile

Okay, summer's just about here and - again - I find myself on the horns of a dilemma.

Simply put: I don't find shorts very attractive. No matter how good your legs are (and mine are good to excellent for a woman my age), shorts make them look shorter and heavier - it's just a fact.

I love wearing dresses (which are the most flattering of all, IMO), but there are times when you just want something a little "easier." Something you can totally relax in without worrying about how you're sitting, etc. And when it's hot, shorts are better than capris (which I hate).

What to do?

Genesia legs are fine-Tina Turner fine. Yeah, I said it. Those legs should be shown off!! Perhaps finding the right fitting short not to tight and not to loose. With the right kind of fabric-Ta dah, shorts Genesisa can wear. yay!

It's even worse for men if they don't like wearing shorts!

I do own a couple of shorts, but I really don't like wearing them (or only at certain occasions or on holidays/at the beach), because they just make me look too clumsily casual for my taste, if you know what I mean...

As for you: summer dresses with thin, white leggins...? (love that on most women)

White leggins can be a horrible look on women too lol.

Any leggins can be. It depends on your legs and mostly on what you wear it with. If you know what to wear it with, leggins are not only very practical, but can also make an outfit even more interesting!

That's true, but with white ones you need to be more careful than with black ones for example

The thing about leggings is...they completely eliminate any sort of definition your legs might have. There's no light and shadow from muscles, knees and the basic shape of the leg. That means your legs actually have to be better proportioned to wear leggings, because leggings make them look two-dimensional (especially if the leggings are black or navy). Leggings look best on someone whose, calves and ankles are well-defined and shapely - or very slender.

They are great if you have all that - and are simply trying to minimize any superficial flaws like spider veins, scars or lack of a tan.

And, yes - white leggings are extremely difficult to wear. They make everyone's legs look heavier (I don't care how thin you are). About the only thing worse is leggings in a print - which just make you look like you have a skin condition. lol

nod And if you wear anything over it they also also make your legs look shorter than tights because they end before your shoes (don't think that is good English boxed). So even when your legs are slender and/or well defined, but not very long it might not look good.

biggrin Don't you hate it when you can't seem to express yourself in a correct way? On the other hand, sometimes it's so cute!

I never really felt like wearing leggings. I don't think they would look bad on me (apart from the fact that, depending on the colours and the whole combination, they might make me look shorter so maybe it wouldn't be so aesthetically pleasing from that point of view), but I never thought about actually wearing them, somehow.

In summer, when it's really hot, I usually wear dresses/skirts (which I hardly ever wear during the rest of the year) or long pants made of extremely comfortable, "light" materials that actually "reduce" the feeling of heat. I like shorts too, but I only wear them when I go to the beach or something similar. I don't really have a habit of wearing them on other occassions. .

I still have not given up to find a good way for me to wear leggings even though I am small. Because contrary to most pants they have a better fit around your belly under a long tighter t-shirt .

I always only wore long pants of "light" material in summer or very long skirts until about 3 years ago because I considered my legs too pale. Short skirts and shorts were for winter only, with tights underneath lol. Now that I spent a lot of time in the Caribbean and got at least a tiny bit of a tan (although nobody but me and people who know me very well notice it lol) I started to wear pants that are this long or a little bit shorter in summer:

I see. I've seen plenty of really pale people wearing short skirts and shorts, and I think it's actually great that they aren't bothered by that. But I do understand you nod

I love the photo wink hug

For instance, I considered myself too short for those long colourful summer dressess, but when I tried one on last year I realised I was wrong! Those are quite comfortable too.

I am still very pale and everybody approaches me about that all the time still sigh. But I am now brave enough to wear something like that, because I know from experience that I was even paler before and I am so thankful that has changed and it makes a huge difference to me lol.

But I still need to wear loads of necklaces to appear less pale wink lol.

I was afraid too that very long skirts or dresses won't work on me because I am short, but they wok well just like really short ones do. Everything in between not so much though, they need to be really short or really long confused. And yes the long ones are really comfortable in hot summer nod. And I even like it if they have a hippie look giggle.

Fron the photos I have seen of you I think you are very much of a "dress girl" meaning that dresses must look really great on you because you have that "classic beauty" look worship.

Yes, the length in between is not perfect for us, that's true. Looks better on tall people.

I'd say a bit of hippie look really fits you! I don't mind a bit myself either!

I've been feeling like wearing strong colours lately, I'm so tired of all those dark fall/winter shades! It's what I like about you and your pictures - colours!

I usually feel best in simple, but slightly unusual things (colour-wise or model-wise).

I'm blushing! You're so sweet, thank you (:

Skirt + short biker shorts. The allure remains while the "ill nana" region's in check. I don't know if its tacky or not. It definately keeps me interested. Skirts r sexy, cuz of that "random breeze" effect, even if security isn't actually at risk.

Shorts r sexy to, cuz of the knack they have for shaping a butt, regardless of what happens to a leg or too.

I unno. Prefer skirts...the usually speak more "woman" to me. Shorts, they speak a touch more "girl".

I spent most of my youth shunning shorts b/c of my chicken legs.

Now I'm more comfortable with myself but still, prefer long shorts.

I have one pair of shorts that are decently above the knee...for gym use only. lol

A sleeveless dress with short compression shorts underneath is my favorite thing to wear for golf. I like that the shorts are opaque and fitted to the leg. I'm with Genesia on this one.

I never liked shorts really. Major pertetuators of chub rub, if ya know what I mean. lol

I never wore shorts when I was a kid except to the beach. My mother thought they were immodest and as I grew older, forbade them more and more. It wasn't until i was around 18 ish that i felt fit enough to try a pair of knee length shorts. And while they're comfortable, I don't like how they make my legs look.

I go with breezy skirts and summer dresses in the summer. I love those more than anything.

I found some!

They're linen - with legs that roll up and secure with button tabs. I was so surprised they fit that I bought both colors (light stone and white). Here they are (though that's not me wearing them):

Even better, I got them on Thursday - and after wearing them around the house for a little while, they seemed a little big. So went back to the store today and bought both colors in a smaller size! woot!

You have no idea how exciting this is for me. I've lost 20 pounds in the last year - and this is the first time in 4 years I've bought a pair of shorts. touched

Here in Fla. people really just don't give a crap, lol

It's hot nearly all the time and people of all sizes, shapes and ages wear shorts of all kinds frequently...much different from Philly, where I'm originally from.

I think this is also the flip-flop capital of the world!

I'm a tall, big girl and I still wear bike shorts or capri length with a long shirt and sneakers to the grocery store or the gym.

Sadly, I can't do sundresses anymore like I did when I was much younger and much slimmer. The skinny straps and heavy bosoms doesn't work at all. I see really big women do this all the time and it looks awful.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
