I don’t believe in luck, but I play just the same. Not very often, mind you, just when I see the winning amount go up super high. Luck doesn’t make someone win. It’s all chance.

The investment is so small, you're not really losing much. I only ever buy one or two tickets. And I've probably not spent more than $20 on it in total over the course of my life so far.

$1 for a dream, as my friend used to say.

But wouldn't it make more sense to play when the amount is comparatively low (which is still super high, usually, isn't it), if you do play just once or very rarely? Your chances when you play for the super high sum will rise mathematically only if you have played regularly before; however this is all relative to you losing money each round...

Your chances of getting the winning numbers are the same no matter how many people are playing.

The only thing that changes if a lot of people are playing is the chance that someone else might pick the winning numbers, too.

...and for the record...one of my fantasies (NO, not THOSE type!!!!) involves opening up Kindergarden-thru-College educational "campuses" in third world countries.

Meaning...if I were to ever be a multi-millionare....I would like to offer poor/disenfranchised people the opportunity to send their children away to school, for as long as they wish, and offering the children a higher education even.

Education, I believe, is THE key to ending poverty. Not pledging millions or BILLIONS (as happened in Haiti) that ultimately does the general population no good.

Well, I don't want to be rude, but why would you proceed with doing what you do, waiting for the miracle of becoming a billionaire before you start realizing your dreams?

I really think you will not become a billionaire proceeding with your current life style.

Critisizing current aid programs will not make YOUR dream or vision come true.

I mean, why don't you start dreaming, making plans and see what really is necessary in order to do it? I am convinced you would do a great job. I am convinced you are a great person, and deserve to decide and create youw own destiny.

Thank the universe that the woman who apparently wasn't good for you did decide to leave you. That created a space in your life to take control of your life and do what truly satisfies you. In all possible ways smile Not just physical wink

Why don't you start a plan to open up Kindergarden-thru-College educational "campuses" a third world countries? Why wait for it untill you become a billionaire?

@ PurpleJedi: And why in a third world country?

I watched the Wire, which is my no. 1. all times because it is so stippled and understanding of what's going wrong. Based on what I saw on the wire, I assume there might be a need for your ideas in your own neighbourhood?!

Just go for it!

Wow, this planet has billionaires and there are roughly two billion living in poverty.

But it's the lottery winner who should be giving everything away?

Illogical.

The billionaires have found themselves a lot of excuses to not spend their money in relieving suffering, otherwise they already would have, right?

And if your mind is set on gathering as much money as you can for yourself, which is obligatory to become a billionaire, your not the kind of person who care about the welfare of others.

When a pie has to be divided over 4 persons, the current billionaire aimes to get the whole pie at cost of the other 3. That's attitude is the only one that can make you a billionaire.

Actually, that's not the only attitude.

How about growing the pie, so more people get more? (Think of all the millionaire employees of Microsoft . . .)

A billionaire doesn't need the whole pie. I'd rather grow the pie so all four of us would become billionaires.

It is not a zero sum game.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I don't feel the need to tell you what I have done for others. If you doubt if I have been a worthy enough member of society, I hope you trust me that I hold very high morals when it comes to my own decisions and I have volunteered a lot.

I wrote that before the system was explained. All thought all you needed was a ticket and that the winning ticket will be randomly selected.

This way, you're correct, although I would be even quicker to point out your second point! lol The more people play, the greater the chance you won't win the whole sum, even if you do pick the right numbers.

shhh Try playing the numbers that haven't been selected for a long time. Your chances of winning will be slightly bigger. shhh wink

I hear what you say...

BUT I have 3 kids that depend on me for clothing, food, and contributions towards shelter.

I lack the skills or expertise required to embark upon a "fantasy" without deep pockets to maintain my (meager) lifestyle. This is not something that I can DO, it's something I wish I could FUND.

Why in a third world country??? Because, there are ALREADY people who open up charter schools in poor neighborhoods in the USA. The Catholic Church provides this via DeLasalle schools. Just opening a daycare center is a daunting task (my friends' mother recently did this) and becomes a full-time endeavor with minimum financial compensation for the first few years (worse even if you can't get enough clients to fill your roster).

Believe me, I have thought of packing up and making my way in the world elsewhere...but the little ones are more important than anything else. They didn't ask for any of this, and life has been traumatic enough for them recently without daddy vanishing, or becoming one of those idealistic men going from scheme-to-scheme and racking up thousands upon thousands of dollars in arrears for child support.

When my mind is settled and I can stand on solid ground again, I'll re-visit the invitation to join the local Rotary club which does charity work for the local poor.

I know, I know, and I really, really respect and admire you, the way you have handled the divorce and how you are taking your kids to great trips and managing everything.

I'm really sorry that I gave you the idea that I was critizising you. And I'm really not saying that you should give up everything because you have to do be a filantropist.

It's just that I wanted to support you in enjoying your life and not withhold yourself because you are afraid you can't do those thing. I really am convinced that if you have a dream, of any kind, it is worth it to pursue, weven without the right education, money or other recourses. And it's not about grandiose efforts.

For example, Paintedlady wanted to keep bees. However, she hesitated because she didn't have any place for the bees. When she convinced herself she didn't need to own land and could just go for it, she got support from everywhere and paved a way for herself to start beekeeping. I really thought that attitude was great and admire her for it.

That is what I meant. No need to be a millionaire to somehow start that dream and make it come true.

It wasn't that I was saying you shoud be helping poor people.

hug
