Did you?
I don't remember clearly. Was that when I was laying on the grass in Hyde Park and you were standing over me? I'm sure you made me blush then.

My ex-boss who is a wonderful black lady originally from up North but moved down here right after the Civil Rights Era, pointed out to me something I was doing and when I thought about it, she was absolutely right. Of course, she knew how to tell me without pissing me off because she said she knew I meant no harm by it and just didn't realize what I was doing.
Anyway, I had a female doctor for years that I loved and when she left, I requested another female doctor. Big mistake because this was a cold bitch from hell with no sense of humor whatsoever. She just layed down the law what she wanted me to do and when I didn't come back with the results she wanted, she would chew me out without even caring that humans are going to slip and make mistakes when it comes to their health.
My boss asked me the next day how I liked my new doctor and I said I couldn't stand her and wanted another doctor. I was describing the doctor to my boss and I said she was a white woman with real short hair but no style to it, no makeup, no sense of humor whatsoever, and just a cold as ice person who acts like her patients are computers where you punch in what you want and expect those results. I then told her "The black girls in the lab, who I've known for years and laugh and joke with, were telling me that a lot of her patients don't like her and I was asking their advice on a doctor they might recommend to me since they know my personality".
My boss pointed out to me that when I mentioned the white doctor, I called her a "woman" and when I mentioned the black ladies in the lab, I called them "girls". I never had really noticed it before but she was absolutely right. It was just something I did without even realizing it. No harm or racism intended, I guess it's just how I was raised. I still think it may have something to do with considering an authority figure such as a doctor as a "woman" as opposed to the more laid back and fun black ladies in the lab who I referred to as "girls". I never referred to my boss as a "girl" though and she was black but then again, she was ultra professional at all times and would never let her hair down except when the two of us were alone. That may have something to do with it also but she definitely had a point. Andy is a four letter word.
