It may have to do with their personality more than their gender or sexuality or race. Some people are more sensitive than others as nothing but people. If people of my background joke about it among one another, sometimes I laugh along, but most of the time I'm overanalyzing it all and wondering if there is some self-loathing going on and wondering where these attitudes are coming from, or is it to empower ourselves and make light of other races or the dominant race not getting us and finding humor in it, which is pretty sad. It is hard explaining it to others if they've said something offensive without realizing what they think is an innocent term is a racial slur, but then on the other hand, having internalized shame and things like that in the past led to me not realizing that what the other person is saying is or how they are behaving is not right and becoming more aware of these attitudes with time.
