Some burgers got this that and the other and I live them for that...but at the end of the day, a burger EXACTLY how I want it w/ a side of fresh cut fries and pink lemonaid....In-N-Out. Grilled onion, ketchep on the botton, easy thousand island topside, lettuce topside, tomato on the bottom, American cheese, 3 patties(a "3 by" or 3x) grilled on griddle in mustard(they use a grill/griddle...no flame broiler wicking away all the lucious juicies.) That is how I ask it to be made, and it how they cook it, and its how I enjoy it on a level not to far from heaven. [Edited 3/23/12 3:37am]

They grill the patties IN the mustard? Isn´t that more like boiling them? Or do they just apply a little bit on the patties, like....basting them?

Apply a little, like basting. It's a solid grill...no slots, I guess you'd call it a griddle? . They're not boiled by any means. Ew!

I could never eat a burger WITHOUT ketchup, and I could never eat a burger with a fried egg, bacon or whatever.....I´m a bit conservative when it comes to burgers...cheese, pickles, mustard and ketchup, maybe onions and lettuce....anything else is too much for me.I´m even skeptical when it comes to tomatoes.

I´m trying to reduce my consumption of red meat and chicken these days but I must admit I do love a good burger.

I´ve heard nothing but good things about In-N-Out, Fatburger, Carl´s Jr., and Five Guys...all places that I haven´t tried yet.

Some of the best burgers I´ve eaten eaten were the ones at Fuddrucker´s .

But the VERY best burgers I´ve ever had were served by US-Army members in Germany during the annual fair we had in my hometown. The Germans had their own fair and then there was the one organized by the American military personell. Nothing fancy or too big but they had their little stands where they served hot dogs, AAFES ice cream, sodas , chili and hamburgers.

You would buy a sweaty, steaming bun with a freshly grilled pattie inside, and then you´d go and get some chopped onions, mustard, ketchup etc. with a spoon from big buckets.

Sounds a bit unhygienic but those were really, really great burgers. Good times, nice memories.

I can't think of any, I rarely get burgers in a resturant outside of fast food. There was the Corvette Diner, but it's been years and I hardly remember it, so I don't think it was all that spectacular. I keep seeing In n Out, and I've heard many people rave about it, but I've never found it all that interesting. Went to Boll Weevils, folks raved, to me the steerburger was dry which I guess translates to lean and had too much garlic for my taste. Now I did like Carl Jr's teriakiyi burger with the pineapple but they took that off the menu then changed the recipe so I'm not a fan of that. So I left with only the ones I fix.

Typically "real" restaurants will serve up a much better burger than fast-food joints.

Diners around here are hit-&-miss. Some serve fresh hamburgers that melt in your mouth, and some serve typical frozen-then-grilled patties (you can taste it).

In the world of "cheap" fast-food, I prefer Wendy's. Followed by Burger King. I'll eat a McDonald's burger only if I'm starving and there is nothing else to be had.

By & large, my favorite right now is "Smashburger" as I originally posted. Can't get enough of that place.

Theres one near me, but haven't had the gumption to go yet.

Here in NZ we only have Burger King, MacD's, Wendys and KFC as well. The best from them is the Outlaw burger from Burger King, a relaistic sized burger with Mayo, Onion rings, Pattie, cheese and bacon with BBQ sauce, a real heart attack on a bun, but so nice for a chain burger.

Failing that, here in New Zealand we have heaps of Fish and chip shops that serve some mean burgers, and I mean big ass house burgers too.

We have the gourmet chains Burger Fuel and Burger Wisconsin, but to me they are overpriced garbage. (Like $16 ($13USD) for a burger).

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

About 25-30 years ago, I remember a burger from the midwest I tried from a fast food chain called Mr. Hero's, they had something on the menu called a "Roman Burger" that was so good, I've never forgotten it:

Romanburger®Mr. Hero’s signature gourmet burger! Two juicy grilled burgers topped with melted Swiss American cheese, grilled Genoa Salami and Italian Luncheon loaf served on a bed of shredded lettuce with tomatoes, onions, a sprinkle of Mr. Hero’s original Italian oil’n spice and topped with our own special recipe mayonnaise – served on a hearth baked Italian roll.

Never tried the Outlaw.

$16 for a burger is steep, ESPECIALLY if they aren't mind-blowingly delicious. nod

For you out-of-towners, whenever you come to NYC, go to Jackson Hole for a real burger. You won't be able to move after eating one of those suckers. My favorites are the soul, pizza and mexican burgers. Google "Jackson Hole-NYC".

My grandmother's vegeburgers.

She was Seventh Day Adventist and we would spend Saturday's with her. Go to church, go to her house to eat and chill, go back to church or go home.

She used canned soy meat and those burgers were the bomb! Better than any beef burger. She used green onion, egg and I guess seasoning, but yeah.

I've tried making them, but not as good as hers were.

Nation's and Giant Burger in the East Bay are the best burger joints. Giant Burger's gone under or shrunk to only a few locations but a great place to get a burger.

When you get a taste for a Nation's burger, only a Nation's burger will do.

Totally. I've always been a big fan of BK but in England it was out of this world.

It's the beef!

I wish I'd know that. sad

I would've eaten there for that reason.

They have a "black bean burger" for vegetarians somewhere that I recently went to.

Yeah, I've had some really great veggie burgers, and black bean burgers are my faves, but they're just not the same.

I'm happy to have had some good burgers in my life. Now I just eat other great things.

I need that attitude right now! Thank you. A much better way to view the situation.

There was this corner diner a block away when I lived in Richmond, CA called Johnny's. The served a double burger on a French Sourdough Roll. They would even top it with pastrami. Nothing that greasy should taste so good. I couldn't watch them being made because I would have second thoughts about eating it. It was a biweekly pleasure. My brothers would eat them day in day out.
