The Best You've Ever Eaten - Sandwich edition

Anyone a fan of the Food Network?

They have this show called "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" where they interview their celebrity chefs and ask them what the best XXXX they've ever eaten was.

They had the best Pizza, the best sweet treat, the best messy food, the best breakfast, etc. etc.

So how about an Org version???

I'd like to start off with a SANDWICH edition.

What's the best sandwich you've ever eaten, where, and why?

question

I'll start off;

The best sandwich that I can think of, was a BLT (Bacon/Lettuce/Tomato) that I had at Houlihan's (a chain restaurant) back in the early 90's.

It was made on focaccia bread, the bacon was crisp, and the lettuce was finely shredded.

drool Absolutely delicious.

Unfortunately they no longer make it, but I've never had a BLT that compares anywhere else.

The first thing that came to mind is a chicken cheesesteak that I had in a diner outside of Atlantic City, NJ.

When I stopped eating red meat, I thought my days of cheesesteaks were over. But then we stopped in Absecon on the way into AC, and faint my life was changed forever.

no no no! See, now, you started something... drooling

I hate to be one of those people BUT.. I havent found a sandwich I have died for... I HATE lunch meat, and "most" places use lunch meat instead of "real" meat..

I myself make amazing sandwiches! My fave right now is this Panini... fresh mozzerella, ripe tomato, fresh basil leaves and a balsamic reduction, all on foccacia bread drool

I also make a mean tuna salad on croissant(sp?), I also like to use imatation crab meat, provolone, and malt vinegar on foccacia grilled on the Panini maker...

But there is nothing better than a slice of ham, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on home made bread!

And a BLT in the summer using garden stuff.. OMG NOW I WANT A SANDWICH!

baguette

brie on the bottom

apricot jam on the top

fill with bacon (I use veggie bacon) and green apple slices

YUM!

I made a pretty rockin' sandwich for a picnic last night:

baguette

fava beans in the food processor w/parsley, salt, pepper and lemon juice, spread on the bottom

quark cheese (fresh cheese made by local Amish folks) spread on the top drizzled w/a little olive oil

filled with arugula

YUM!

drool (except for the onions)

One year I found a recipe for leftover (Thanksgiving) turkey where you make a cheesy cream sauce, then stack the turkey, sauce and cheese (provolone or swiss I think) on bread and toast it in the oven.

It was delicious...but the MESS that I made in the kitchen was outrageous! disbelief

There's this little restaurant/hotel 20 miles north of the Grand Canyon called "Jacob's Inn" or something like that.

They have the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. People come from all over the world to eat their sandwiches.

Actually, they come from all over the world to stay there when they visit the Grand Canyon, but I'm sure they eat sandwiches, and I'm sure they like them just as much as I did.

There was this little sandwich shop in Rockmart, Georgia and they had the BEST BEST BEST vegetarian sandwich! My God, to this day, it was the best sandwich I've ever had. My grandmother used to live there and I used to spend summers with her and LOVED those sandwiches. It's been over 15 years since I've had one but I've yet to have one as good. Delicious. smile

Oh, to describe: Toasted sub bread, mayo, mustard, oil & vinegar, salt & pepper, lettuce, swiss cheese, onions, green peppers, red peppers.
