It's a 1977 movie about a school teacher (played by a young Diane Keaton) who goes bar-hopping every night, looking for one-night stands lol

They lifted this theme for the final season of Desperate Housewives. Super-straight edged Bree Van Der Kamp falls off the wagon after a traumatic experience she's keeping secret, and then secretly becomes the town barfly, taking a different man to bed every night and getting addicted to the high of it. It definitely spiced the plot up a bit an made me wonder if the show creator was a fan of the Diane Keaton movie.

It got a lot of flak for making the gay male character psycho.

Read the book by Judith Rossner before I saw the movie. Very disturbing but it was based on real life events, the life of Roseann Quinn. The late Ms. Rossner was a gifted writer and tho' Soul broke down the plot to its simplest premise, I think the movie raise some questions of why the character Theresa Dunn makes the choices she does. Good book, nicely adapted for film. Nice soundtrack.

I heard just enough about the ending of the film to warn me off it when it originally came out (I was in high school) and I still haven't seen it.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

What was your opinion about the book? If you can recall... it's been a while since you read it.

That was over 25 years ago and I haven't read it since so I don't remember much--except for the explicit detail of her encounters. There's one chapter in particular I still find hot today if I'm remembering it correctly. My mum still has the book so the next time I visit my parents, I'll have to thumb through it and check.

I do remember finding the ending to be a real downer.

I can't picture any of today's Hot & Under 40 actresses doing it. I need someone who can equally play clean scrubbed restrained & repressed then evolve into a someone willing to walk on the wild (albeit dark) side. Maybe Julianne?

It is not suppose to be pleasant but at 50 I think I can handle it. I would like to see it some day. It sounds like a great cast also.

The thing about silveragemovies, they offer hard to find movies discontinued movies hence the quality of the DVD may not be up to par with (Blue-Ray) current conditions. Personally, I haven't had an issue with this. I'm not sure if this what you were looking for or wanted to rent if from Nexflix or something.

That's strange, I click on and it popped up. Google Silverage Movies and see if their website shows up, and search their database from there. Fingers crossed.

The site works for me but my virus protection kept telling me it was blocking potential threats, maybe your computer is blocking the site?

Ha...I used my sister's copy of the book to fuel my filthy teenaged mind way back when. Obviously I only recorded the dirty bits in my memory - I watched the movie a few years ago & didn't remember one single thing about the story, never mind the incredibly bleak ending.

The ending of the movie is truly disturbing - a word that can get tossed about a lot, but I think it applies in this case.
