Never take Zoloft for depression

You'll lose your sex drive and never get it back. I learned that the hard way. cry

Are you male or female? How old are you?

Anti-depressants can definitely kill your sex drive. But if you're off them, and depending on your age, it might be a hormone thing.

I'm female 39 and I've been off them for almost three months.

Have you spoken with your doctor?

A lot of things can screw up your sex drive - depression, hormones, going on (or off) medications like anti-depressants, etc. You don't have to suffer in silence, but your doctor is not a mind reader. You need to speak up.

I replied, but please don't send me any more. If you didn't want to discuss it here, why start a thread about it?

As far as I know he is STILL supposed to be taking it but I doubt he is. I know he was on a very high dose, and he took it for about 6 months or maybe more and tried to come off it on his own, and he got really sick, and also was threatening suicide.

That stuff is no joke! I lost a ton of weight, and couldn't sleep. I had a weird disconnect with reality. And I imagine stopping might be just as difficult as starting.

No, I'm not on birth control, but I was taking prescription Ibuprofen (motrin) for pain.

Paxil is awful. I was on it for months before switching to another drug, and found out a year later that studied shows that it can bring on suicidal thoughts or increase them, and years later I was in a crisis a few times mentally though I had no plans or anything like that.

I find it ironic that the drugs that people take for depression can make them want to kill themselves.

Yeah it's pretty awful, but those things are supposed to make you feel worse before you feel better sometimes.

I've taken Zoloft and it didn't kill my sex drive. I've tried antidepressants that did dull it and it always came back full-strength afterwards.

Any side effects from antidepressants will - obviously - disappear once the drug is out of your system.

Have you tried talking to your doctor or pharmacist about this? have they told you this is a potential side-effect?

What other medications aside from Motrin are you on (including over the counter, alternative, or holistic medicine)?

I know that anti-depressants can dull the sex drive, but take it away altogether even after you stop taking it? I strongly suggest talking to your doctor or pharmacist. They'll help pinpoint what's going on.

If you want to orgnote me, I'm here to help. Best of luck. rose

I freak out and get paranoid nowadays from reading about medications and overdoses and all. Though I don't drink and wouldn't mix anything, I am on mood stabilizers, and years ago, anti depressants completely fucked me up, but hearing about these things slowly killing you or your body scares the shit out of me, not to mention getting drowsy in the daytime and not sleeping well, and feeling so out of it in public. Every time a celeb dies or if it's someone I like, I feel I'm not getting younger, or it's a warning sign to me to watch it too. I get scared if I'm asked to try something new and I refuse the samples if they are new and dump them when I get home, I don't trust anyone psych and feel paranoid like they're just going to kill us all.

I don't think 3 months is long enough to decide that your sex drive is gone for good.

Yes, talk to your doctor but also spend time trying to find out what others in your situation might have done.

Just about all of those anti-depressants have sexual side effects. The only one that doesn't is Wellbutrin.
