You all are way harsh. Someone comes here to present a unique idea and you all jeer him/her like that? Come on now, you know better than that!

Anyway, I thought it was very interesting. I don't know if I want my children to have television when they are young. Media has such a huge impact on society, and I'm not entirely sure it's always a positive one. What else tells men they need to be jerks to get women? What else tells women they need to lose 50 pounds before they can even consider calling themselves "attractive?" The television has way too much influence on society. I stand by TipN4U's comments.

To the nay sayers:

1. Have you heard of poetic license? Understanding every single word in a song or poem? -- come on, get real! I don't think most of us understand that much, especially upon first reading or hearing a new creation. Do you understand every word that Prince has ever sung or said or written? or any other artist who you enjoy? The most talented and gifted creative people (not just in music) have the ability to create meaning in layers. In other words, today you get this part of the meaning, the next time, you pick up on another aspect of their meaning, maybe something deeper, maybe just different, and so on.

2. IMHO, "mimes" here isn't referring to mimes who do their artistic silent performance; it means all the characters on television who aren't giving us a message filled with meaning and intelligence and individuality and creativity and compassion but are just rattling around like noisy robots, being controlled by those just going for the ratings, etc.

3. If we could all praise and appreciate each other, the energy would flow more freely and brighter and there'd be more glory and beauty and peace and joy which would diminish the elements that lead to war, violence, hatred, prejudice, and the like.

It's so easy to play a "character" on this and any other site. Real courage is opening up and revealing the true self like this and I admire that. Your "feelings" came through nicely.
It is so refreshing to see someone concerned with more than
physical pleasure and materialism.
I also feel pain for the children.
I had not thought enough about how the programs, especially
the "NEWS" progams...may be affecting them.
Suppose you were 5-12 years old and all you heard was "war"
"bombs", "smallpox", "anthrax"..."2 killed in violent storms", "earthquakes", "bodies burned beyond reconition in Rd Island"...Whew!!!
