Lamb chops w/ couscous: Gonna do this like the Moroccans nod -- I'd marinade those chops in paprika, oregano, tumeric, garlic powder and lemon juice before they hit the skillet for 8 minutes. And I'd add a bit of cinnamon, coriander, pine nuts and golden raisins into the couscous. And if I were feeling daring, I might sprinkle the slightest traces of powdered sugar over the couscous. P.e.r.f.e.c.t.i.o.n.

Somali Halwa: a sort of gel dessert composed of water or milk, clarified butter and flour. The Indian halwa in the photo is made with pumpkin and cashews, but I'd rock it Somali style, with honey, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper. It'd be like biting into a slice of chai. drool Goes well with green tea.

I don't do Sangria either.

The taste is only just OK to me. But that aside, the name -- derived from sangre, Spanish for "blood" -- has always messed with my head.

lol What is it with those Spaniards???

One of the best things I've ever eaten was a dessert at a Spanish restaurant called "brazo de gitano" (arm of gypsy).

...yes...because apparently it resembles a slice of a severed arm...

Why would I ? lol confuse

Greek cuisine and Turkish cuisine have a lot in common, Greeks eat a lot of things that are actually Turkish, with Turkish names, and Turks eat a lot of things that are actually Greek and have Greek names. Of course there are some minor differences sometimes but that´s just details. ( Greek moussakka is a bit different etc. etc., and of course there are regional differences in those countries) .

The whole eastern Mediterranean region and the Balkan region share a lot of common traditions, customs, music and meals. Greeks and Turks had their wars in the past but they also have a lot in common. I know because my family is from the Aegaen region/Turkish westcoast. If both countries had smarter leaders today (and in the past) then they would both benefit greatly from it but unfortunately a lot of people like to live in the past. Germany and France are a good example of two former enemies forgiving each other, overcoming their past and joining forces culturally and politically for a better future.

But I don´t want to get political here. biggrin

I wish it was summer so I could enjoy some raki dinner. I don´t like raki when it´s cold but I love to drink it in the summertime with some friends and good food and with lots of good music and conversation.

whew whew whew

I know all about the commonalities between the cultures, but I have had the occasional Turkish friend not be really into all things Greek and vice versa. The most extreme example I can give you was a Greek friend of mine having a mother (a little older, trying something new) finally going for her driver's license. I kid you not when she got to the class and saw her Turkish teacher she dropped out. When her daughter asked her what was wrong (because she couldn't figure out what the he heck could possibly be the problem), all she got was a tight-lipped granny muttering "Greek and Turkish realations mad ". And that was the end of the great "finally learning to drive adventure". lol

See, now i know why they call you Kool Eaze, you're cooler than a ceiling fan, my friend! hug

...although sometimes when I see your screen name it makes me think of Kool- Aid. confuse hmmm

...which just reminds me; I'm bringing Kool-Aid to our little party here, courtesy of the good ole USA dancing jig
