cool I've never seen crabs in a home tank before! thumbs up!

They are pretty easy to take care of if you know a bit about them. Most of them, depending on the species, definitely need some land part though, like a floating little island with soil and plants in it, or some extra part above water level. Some others though don´t like too much water and prefer to stay on the soil part.

They live up to five years but are often already a year or two old when you buy them. These are mangrove crabs. There are also vampire crabs that are a bit more interesting and easier to breed.

Cute little animals with a lot of personality.

This is NOT my tank, I don´t have a bigger picture right now but this gives you an idea on how they should be kept.

Mine live in a place very similar to this:

Oh, you mean the ramirezi? It´s some sort of South American cichilid. I prefer my African cichlids though, they are soooo social and cute and constantly redesigning the tank by digging in the sand and spitting it out again. lol

This one, right?

[img:$uid]http://www.aquaforum.nl/gallery/upload/microgeophagus_ramirezi_male.jpg[/img:$uid]

That´s a ramirezi. Don´t live really long though, maybe four or five years maximum due to overbreeding and antibiotics.

Its beautiful! love

that's it!! I need to upsize... a need a new tank for bigger fish. Can I put pea puffers with this guy?

I need to proofread my posts dammit!

[Edited 3/5/12 15:05pm]

I wouldn´t recommend it. I would not even keep pea puffers in an aquarium at all. They´re some kind of mini blowfish and their mouths are reminiscent of a budgie´s or parrot´s beak. They eat snails and little mussels/clam, which sounds great if you have too many snails in your tank, that´s why some people buy them, but there comes a day when they´ve finished all the snails and then their beak-like mouth keeps growing and gets kinda locked because they don´t use it anymore due to lack of hard food/snails, and they can starve from that. Plus they are pretty aggressive fish, some are even toxic if you´re not careful.

Cute fish, but not easy to keep. I bet your are palembang pea puffers.

OR you need to have a really BIG tank.

I kept 2 for over 5 years... I loved them. When they died I got the frogs.

1 females 1 male... yeah, they were aggressive but they lived well with my ember tetras and kuhlis.

So pea puffers shouldn't be kept huh? Yeah... I wouldn't want to kill them.

I had to take my tank down some time ago, the tank was falling apart (I bought it for my parents with one of my first paychecks in 1990!)

sad

I'm thinking of setting up a pico reef next, maybe about 3 gallons or so.

That´s pretty amazing. You´re lucky they didn´t die earlier.

They can be kept in tanks but I wouldn´t recommend it unless you give them the habitat and the proper food they need.

I took my own thread waaaay off topic.

Gotta get some sleep now.

Nothing too strange or special; the web-sites I visit each day basically represent (cover) my main needs/hobbies/interests.

facebook.com - work (music, promotion, staying in touch with "fans" etc), staying in touch with far-away friends

gmx.at - emails (work, education)

prince.org - discussing music and other things with a variety of people with different backgrounds and different opinions (this is what makes this place interesting to me), prince (one of my favourite artists)

manutd.com - football (my favourite club)

bbc.co.uk - news, information, politics

wikipedia.org - information

it's just a 5 gallon tank with a little DIY work to it. the partition on the left holds a sump and live refugium for filtering with the display part being about 3 gallons. the light on there is a power compact fluoro which is more than enough for the soft corals in it.
