Broadway Shows Why don't the makers of Broadway shows release them on DVD - like actual movies since the majority of people in the U.S. (and world, for that matter) will never be able to travel to New York to see or afford them?
Live theater (musical or not) is an age-old event that is only limited by the stories told, actors, setting, production, etc. Yet to keep it as an "exclusive" event limited to one place and time is not very lucrative and omits a larger audience. In a few fortunate cities, movie theaters may broadcast a show on occasion - but it's rare.
You would think producers would want more bang for their buck by marketing DVDs and downloads, just so their shows could get greater exposure. And if people are willing to pay - why not?

I've wondered that myself for years. Especially since nearly all of them are filmed in previews. There are a few available but not nearly what could be. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

I have 1 Broadway show on DVD. Into the woods. It's a funny musical. I only like funny musicals-ones that don't take themselves to seriously. Don't that sound familiar? 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

The "Off Broadway" versions do travel across the country to various theaters. I'd like to see them on DVDs though such as "Hair" and "Oh Calcutta" both Broadway and Off Broadway. The more dicks, the better. Andy is a four letter word.
