As if to underscore how completely out of touch the leading Republican presidential candidates are with the rest of America on gay rights, this photo of a gay Marine proudly kissing his boyfriend has been met with widespread approval on the Internet. The photo, depicting Sgt. Brandon Morgan blissfully returning home from Afghanistan to his partner in Hawaii, has been "liked" on Facebook since it was posted on a Gay Marines Facebook page over the weekend. Since the photo went viral, Morgan had this to say:

To everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you. Dalan, the giant in the photo, can't believe how many shares and likes we have gotten on this. We didn't do this to get famous,or something like that we did this cause after 3 deployments and four years knowing each other, we finally told each other how we felt. As for the haters, let em hate...to quote Kat Williams, everyone needs haters, so let them hate.

We are the happiest we have ever been and as for the whole PDA and kissing slash hugging in uniform...it was a homecoming, if the Sergeants Major, Captains, Majors, and Colonels around us didn't care...then why do you care what these random people have to say? I think this is amazing. I am not a blind worshipper of the military but thank GOD this is where our country is right now with regards to gay rights.

It is cute, but it's also a big deal that this guy is a Marine and very, very recently would have been discharged for this pic. This innocent, lovely expression of love would have ended his military career, like, two minutes ago. But not now. So that's pretty cool.
