Most of mine are under the radar - seeing as how...you know...they're dead.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

That's an interesting blanket statement. Are you referring to their egos? Or their sometimes exaggerated flair for the dramatic? Or do you just think they don't do a proper job depicting believable characters?

I have to give it to the actors overseas who appear in supporting roles stateside:

[img:$uid]http://globalsociology.com/files/2008/02/mathieu-amalric.jpg[/img:$uid]

Mathieu Amalric (Kings & Queen, A Secret, A Christmas Tale)

[img:$uid]http://thefilmstage.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Vincent_Cassel.jpg[/img:$uid]

Vincent Cassel (Elizabeth (nearly stole it), Shrek (Robin Hood), the Mesrine flicks, Black Swan)

Kristin Scott-Thomas: Only because she's working primarily overseas now. Her work in

Tell No One, I've Loved You For So Long and Leaving was incredible. A case could be made for her being the best actress in film, period.

As for actors of color, one could name 90% of them at any given time, but a few:

Most every black actor who worked on The Wire or Treme, including:

Tony Leung (Hero, 2046, Infernal Affairs) -- this guy is one of the best.
