While all of this are examples of figurative speech, most of these are actually similes. Similes, like metaphors, make comparisons of two things that are not alike, but use the words 'like' or 'as' to make the comparisons. For example: "The sky was just a purple bruise..." is a metaphor from an Elvis Costello song. "He's as honest as the day is long" is an example of a simile. It's also an example of a 'cliche', which is an overused expression. I once actually made a bulletin board in college about the figurative language of Prince songs. There's a lot of it out there! Maybe you guys can find some examples and post them, unless you'd rather start a thread on what Prince wears under his pants or something.
