HDTV, via antenna

I've been experimenting with it (and Windows Media Center as a DVR) and - at least here in downtown T.O. - it's pretty rad. Considering ditching cable... hmmm

HD through antenna is actually really good imho. Even better than Cable if you ask me. It's even clearer picking up the natural signal....nod

Eight. And, from what I've been reading, I might be able to pick up more with a better antenna.

I should let my fellow Torontonians know that I'm very close to the CN Tower (and facing it), so that might influence the number of channels I can pick up.

I haven't had cable in years and I get a GREAT picture with the antenna... and I get about 17 channels... though I am about to move a bit further from town and I'm worried that I might loose the signal.

The HD picture is better than cable. If I could live without the NFL & NBA channel I would have gotten rid of cable by now.

I've been googling antennas and these three seem to have very good user reviews:

http://www.gomohu.com/lea...antenna-1/

http://www.gomohu.com/the...v-antenna/

I'd think that the amplified "Leaf" one would be better.

I haven't done a side-by-side, but I think you're right. At this point, I'm considering hanging on to cable for CNN (although I do get the audio on Sirius hmmm).

I did a side by side and could CLEARLY see a better picture on the "free" signal. (1080 p HD LED TV)

Do you ever get "hiccups", where the signal cuts or freezes for a second or two?

Sometimes. I picked up that FLAT hd antenna and it works well but I hardly ever go in that room so I'm not sure how it functions on a regular basis. The whole house is wrired for Directv except that room.

I get those fairly regularly... it doesn't bother me too much. It's my understanding that it happens because you either get the signal or you don't, unlike old school antenna TV where you get static if it doesn't come in well.

The strange thing I've found is that some random electrical appliances interfere with the signal... like when my downstairs neighbor vacuums or the ice maker in my fridge moves.

My biggest fear. I may pull the plug on DirecTV and go with Dish's low 2 year offer.

Unfortunately, AT&T Uverse who has the best offer right now doesn't serve my area. mad
