I remember my aunt could barely afford to feed her kids and she always bought the cheapest food ever and I threw some bargain basement hot dogs in the shopping basket and when my stepdad cooked em for dinner, he threw a fit about how terrible they were and WTF was I thinking.

They sure tasted amazing at my aunts house when there was nothing else to eat! |

Absolutely. Lower quality everything, not just meats.
But then again, I haven't been to the US for several years so maybe it's not as bad now. |

I only ever had Taco Bell as bartime food in the 80s (because I had a friend who always wanted pintos and cheese when she was trashed). So I'm pretty sure it only tastes good if you're wasted. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Kids prefer the the bad foods! My spoiled little cousins get taken out to nice restaurants all the time on the weekends, but if there aren't chicken fingers/nuggets on the menu they will freak out. If you will, so will I |

Last time I ate at Taco Bell was in 1997. I don't know if I didn't have the cravings for it anymore or what but after that year I didn't go no more. Every Friday or whatever I would go out with my parents to the store, we almost always stopped there so I could eat soft tacos. |

People have been starting rumors about restaurants for ages. I remember back in 1979 when people were saying that Wendy's had worms in it's hamburgers. Andy is a four letter word. |

Some rumors were true to an extent. For example, how many dogs in the 1980's ended up missing after a cheap "Chinese" takeout joint open for business near the hood?

People always say that but Chinese food was absolutely delicious in the 1970s and 1980s. When the 1990s came along, they started tasting all "Americanized" because they started trying to cater to the tastes of people who didn't even like Chinese food in the first place but ate there simply because it had an all you can eat buffet.
Like I always say though, if they were using dogs and cats back then, they need to start back doing it again because whatever they were doing was absolutely delicious back then. Best damn cat I've ever ate. Andy is a four letter word. |

It's still a terrible burrito, but I will eat it on a road trip if I don't want McDonalds |

It was not the Chinese that took bow wow it was the Vietnamese. Its common knowledge that Vietnamese had dog on the menu and I have seen with my own eyes an elderly Vietnamese woman throwing rocks at pigeons downtown and then scooping up the fallen bodies and putting them in her grocery bag no doubt for some special feast. People just looked at her in shock but I knew she gonna chop and stir fry those lil bastards. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I know it was some Vietnameses. But a few of them dared to called it "Chinese" food at the time. |

It was a rumor in the 90s about them using horse meat but I don't believe it. I think their beef is mostly beans and wheat mixture.

It's somewhat-true.

They use silicon dioxide in the beef to keep it from clumping...which is a primary component of ordinary sand and quartz.

How the mightly has fallen since 1979.
yup! until i found out that most of their meat is synthetically altered. used to love me some chicken burritos.
(but i will sneak there every now and then and order a chicken saled bowl w/out the chicken. when i get home i add my own left over roasted chicken sliced up. taco bell's chicken is 'ultra salty,' taste nasty imo.
then i run over to popeye's ( 2 blks away) and order a bowl of their rice and red beans.
mmmmmmmmmmmmm some good taste combo to me! [Edited 2/16/12 16:04pm] |

Popeye's has some GOOD friend chicken.
Never tried the rice & beans though.
Does anyone remember (or still have a) Roy Roger's fried chicken???

They also have THE BEST french fries IMO.
All the restaurants in NY closed (I think there may be one left in Penn Station)...but there's some in the Rest Stops on I-95 (that's the main North/South Interstate highway on the East Coast for my foreign friends)...sometimes when taking a trip, it's timed just-right and we can stop off and get some Roy's for lunch.

That Chicken looks dry as hell.....but yes, I remember Roy Rogers. The closest thing we had to them was the fried chicken sold at Hardee's. |
