NFL Cheerleader Accused of Having Sex With A Minor

April 4, 2012

Link

A Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting an underage boy on Monday — while the alleged victim's family sat next to her in support.

Sarah Jones, 26, was busted last week for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old football player at Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood, Kentucky where she also taught freshman English.

Her mother, Cheryl Jones, also pleaded not guilty to charges of tampering with physical evidence in the case. They both face up to five years in prison.

But experts have noted that prosecutors will have a hard time proving their case — especially if the victim won't cooperate. "If the boy is not willing to testify, they have to have some other form of proof, either a videotape, a photograph, or maybe somebody was watching, and there's a third private witness to testify," Wendy Murphy, a former prosecutor said.

If his family's support of the Joneses on Monday was any indication, it doesn't seem like he will be the one to take the stand. "The families are friends," the Joneses' attorney, Charles Lester Jr. said, according to the Kentucky Enquirer.

Prosecutors said despite the alleged victims' family's choice of seating, they have enough evidence to prove their case. "The commonwealth feels we have sufficient evidence to go forward, as did a grand jury," Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Sara Farmer of Jefferson County said.

Sarah Jones quit her job at the high school in November, but is still listed as the captain of the Ben-Gals cheerleading squad. Cheryl Jones, the principal at a nearby middle school, was suspended from her job.

I hope he doesn't testify so that this type of bullshit would be finally dealt with accordingly. this is just one of those cases where the law makes mockery of itself.

I am a bit puzzled by this. What exactly does "sexually assault" mean? Does it imply she actually raped him? How would anybody know if it was an actual "assault" if the boy maybe (more like surely) wanted it too?

Or does it have to do with the age of consent? Is he "illegal" in that state and is that why every sexual interaction with someone older would be automatically considered as an assault of the latter?

If so, that would be quite ridiculous. Age of consent should be 14, in my opinion, because of cases like this.

She was a teacher at the school where he was a student. no no no!

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Kentucky is a messed up state. Age of consent is 16, so you can choose what to do with your own body as far as sex goes, but if you want an abortion and are under 18 you must gain parental consent. So your parents can force you to bring a baby to term.

That's utter BS.

Those folks are cuckoo.

I agree with this.

And this smells like a witchhunt to me.

I don't condone underage sex, and why a 26 year old would ever want to sleep with a 16 year old is beyond me, but I doubt this kid sees himself as a 'victim' of anything. These are bragging rights for most boys 16 years of age.

I understand there has to be a line of demarcation to protect minors...I get that... But, when we have 19 year old boys being affected for the rest of their lives for sleeping with their 17 year old girlfriends, etc., then it gets a bit wierd for me.

I hate the fact that we have these strange mismatches in age limits to everything. Go to war at 18, but can't drink till 21. Sex with someone who is 16 is forbidden (in most states), but those 'kids' can be tried as adults for commiting crimes.

I think a 26 year old woman could easily victimize (psychologically) a 16 year old boy, because of her experience and position of power.

But in these cases, I tend to think that the kid got lucky.

And I also think there's a double standard, and that it applies. I don't imagine a 16 year old girl would sleep with her teacher unless there was some illusion of love in her mind. Generalizing, and I know the opposites are true in many cases, but I think it's largely true.

Not a physical assault, but statutory rape. But I agree the terms are hugely misleading.

If the boy originally accused her, he's probably looking to get paid. I mean she IS a professional cheerleader. I don' t know, I think dude's lying...

I remember one 16-year-old kid said the same thing about a teacher he had that he claimed fucked him when he was 13 or 14. Turned out he was a liar and he was exposed in court. He and his crazy mama.

So I don't know. Difference here is the boy's family is like "nah we don't believe him, we believe you." lol

So I don't know if a case would really be pursued especially if the boy suddenly backtracks. People have been known to lying about being assaulted sexually just to get money and/or sympathy.

It's not rape, it's statutory rape. Big difference
