I think its hilarious that some of you jump up with the judemental "im too mature for fb" "its a waste of time" blahblah

I am by no means an addict, but its a nice way to share your day with people you care about... It also keeps me up to date on concerts, my fave places to shop, my fave restaurants, my fave artists etc etc etc...

You all do realize this is the future... Noone hardly talks on the phone anymore, people dont write letters, And just because you all are old school doesnt mean those of us who LIKE to use fb are immature...

If you dont have it because your not interested in it... Fine... Nothing wrong with that... No need to try and make people feel bad about using just to try and make yourself look better than anyone else...

I really dont see the difference in fb and using P.org... Sure, you can "claim" its to keep up on Prince stuff, but your here in GD... His name is RARELY spoken in here... Please come off your high horses before you fall and break your damn arm... rolleyes

To each their own, but personally I think a nice way to share your day with people is to call and talk to them or better yet spend time with them if they are not too far away. So friends and family that don't have a Facebook account or don't check it constantly won't hear from you? Daaammmnnn that's cold!

Nobody hardly talks on the phone anymore? You must mean landlines, because I can't go to a grocery store or a shopping mall or a park or a party without seeing people talking away on their cell phones. That's why just about everybody has a cell phone, so they can talk to whomever they want whenever they want.

Okay now here's the difference between GD in P.O and FB:

I come here and look for specific topics of conversation that I find fun or interesting and would want to join in. It's all about discussion and interacting.

Facebook, on the other hand, is mostly people typing every mundane bit of minutia about their lives. "I woke up this morning, got out of bed, brushed my teeth, took a shower, couldn't find my slippers, wanted to have cereal, ran out of milk, couldn't decide what I wanted to wear, my current mood is mellow, blah blah blah blah". That's not interacting with others, that is reporting every detail because they (I'm talking regular people, not public figures) think that others give a crap. Seriously, can't they find a better way to spend all that time?

I'm by no means against social media, I think Twitter despite it's flaws is a great form of communication. But Facebook? No thank you. I value my privacy and I value my time, as well as that of others.

"Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

I don't quite understand how someone could defend twitter and bash facebook as "mundane bit of minutiae" lol

Anyway, I use all three (org, FB, Twitter) and I think they are simply what you make of them. The have no inherent value or lack thereof by themselves. They are tools

Just like TV--you can watch Jersey Shore, or you can watch PBS. You can watch all day, and you can watch for half an hour.

It's different for different people.

I just don't GET Facebook. How is it POSSIBLE for 800 million people to have the same branding???!! It's the most disgusting thing I've ever heard of.

I created a username, not with a real name or anything, in fact not even a real word, because there were old friends from school and stuff that I wanted to get in touch with, but I don't use it anymore.

AND of course, I created my OWN site which is sort of a competitor to Facebook, so I don't want to give any time to my rivals smile

No, it is not weird for a person to not be a Facebook addict. It is weird to be a fb addict. I might be one. lol I like to play games because it's a stress reliever, and a stress avoider. I like to read what other folks posts at times and "like" lots of posts, and occassionally post; but I don't chat online. It's not really a big deal. My lifelong friends for the most part are not even on fb, so I'm not communicating with them on there.

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit I still don't know what a Twitter or a Tweet is. lol I went on the site once and it just looked like pages and pages of fragmented sentences. shrug

It's different for different people.

Twitter is a fast and easy way to get a brief (less than 140 characters) message out to others and to receive time sensitive information instantly. I use it to follow athletes, musicians, reporters, etc. It's probably the best way to get breaking news stories, concert and sporting event pre-sale information, all sorts of stuff. I would never use it to stay in touch with friends and family the way people use Facebook, and I don't follow Twitter users who feel the need to constantly share every thought and banal experience. Someone like Funkenberry I'll follow only when Prince is on tour, otherwise I have no interest. For friends and family, I'll stay in touch by visiting them. If I can't visit, I'll call them. If I can't call, I'll text them.

I do agree all three are tools and different people use them for different reasons. It just rubs me the wrong way when people act like it's a requirement for everyone to have a Facebook account, and it saddens me to see people basically shifting their lives to Facebook and using it as their preferred or only method of communication with people they supposedly care about.

It's kind of ironic that Facebook is considered "social media", when in reality it's replacing true social interaction.

In a nutshell, it's very similar to texting. The big difference is with Twitter you establish the group of people that you want to follow, so whenever they send out a message you'll get it. And anybody using Twitter can receive the messages you send out, unless you change your settings so that people are required to get permission from you before they can follow you.

Oh! I don't know. All of this high-tech stuff seems so time-consuming. I barely keep up with my emails. If I had to keep up with what's happening on facebook and twitter, I'd probably have a nervous break-down. lol
