This is my point. Roland did not mention in any way, shape, or form homosexuality. What has happened is that GLAAD and their elite members have made their interpretations of other people's comments the rule by which everyone must behave, speak and think. I say fuck them! If I say fuck men who wear skinny jeans and they come for me I'm ready and will happily embrace the new followers. wink They won't though, because I'm not a celebrity whom people watch and adore.

Speaking of.....I mentioned Beiber because this dude has millions upon millions of fans and they are die hard and hard core. I've personally been cussed out for saying he has a girl hair style (before he cut it) and on the flip side, when I mentioned liking one of his songs and posting the YT link, I got a dozen new followers in the span of 2 mintues.

Remember that woman that claimed she had his baby? Some of his fans sent her death threats via twitter. He is just not somebody I recommend pissing off because his fans are...well....pyscho. lol

I think you're splitting hairs here. I think, if a white commentator said something like: "(pick a random Hollywood starlet) needs to stop letting her skin get so brown and her hair get so curly," the NAACP would scream that he was being racist. He wouldn't have uttered the words "black people are unattractive," but the implication would have been clear enough.

Roland Martin is in hot water because he's basically saying sissy behavior deserves a beatdown. I think GLAAD and other people have a right to take him to task for that, especially when you consider the violence that still occurs against gay people.

You are mixing apples and oranges. Any commentator, regardless of their race, would be out of line for picking on a specific starlet or even a dude and commenting on their skin color being too brown or their hair being too curly so as to require some sort of correction. That would not be racist but it would be racially insensitive as one cannot control the skin or hair they inherited from their parents.

Roland did not mention any specific person nor their physical trait. He made fun of a commercial and its star being aired during one of the most respected and loved sporting events in American History. He spoke to HIS base and HIS fans.

Roland is in hot water because he is an easy target. So if you consider his statement to mean sissy behavior deserves a beatdown then you are reading wayyyy to much into it. I interpret him making fun of soccer in general and anyone who liked soccer as he did with Piers Morgan in one of his other tweets. Christopher Barron, who is gay, also made fun of the ad.

his tweet read: "If a dude at your #superbowl party is hyped about david beckham's h&m ad smack the ish out of him."

There is no mention of "sissy" behavior. IMO and the way I think Roland meant it is that soccer fans get no love during superbowl time and anybody hyping up Beckham who is not a football player need a figurative smacking. Roland had repeatedly hashtagged "superbowl" to show his support of this sport.

This is no different than they many beefs we've seen between MJ and Prince fans. Are we to assume that MJ fans want Prince fans beaten and vice versa?

Come on now.

Throw in the fact that his wife is one of those "ex gay movement" persons, I think RM knew exactly what he was saying. For how attack dog he is bout anything that comes off as remotely racist he should have known better, which I think he did, when he tweeted.

Yeah. The fact that he typed what he did, it definitely wasn't some "harmless tweet". I side eye any comment on Facebook or Twitter that attacks anyone regardless of WHAT or WHO you are. That's not cute.

What is an ex-gay movement person?

And Roland doesn't deal in the "remotely racist". That would be Al Sharpton. lol

hmmm Ok so then that would be ALL the comments on Facebook and Twitter.

You either like something or you dont which puts you in the "WHAT" category.

You either identify with something or you don't which puts you in the "WHO" category.

If you guys are all for this nonsense then keep in mind you are not immune and your own job will eventually be on the line.

Sorry but I don't care for mafia/nazi type behavior no matter who is doing it. There has to be room in the world for people to have a general sense of humor about random shit without some group feeling so empowered and so full of themselves that they can tell you how to think and how to speak and when to do either.

That's it! That's it!!! I get it now!

I bet they also shelled out millions of dollars to put that H&M commercial on the air during the Super Bowl, too, cuz they knew, they just knew Roland Martin would be unable to control himself and Tweet something that would get him suspended from CNN!!!

They're brilliant, those gays!

Come on now, HG. Does he need to take responsibility at all? Or is it all conspiracy?

falloff He apologized and that was all, albeit it too much IMO, that he needed to do. I just can't get behind a group that is out to get people fired from their jobs because they don't understand or appreciate a friggin joke over sports.

Personally, I don't see the appeal of soccer and David is fuckable as hell but I'm not about to buy anything with his name on it so yes, the commercial was corny and ill placed for the Superbowl. I also took issue with the homage to Detroit that Clint Eastwood did and I do see it as a dig at the republicans but nothing that warranted the backlash he is getting. Of course the right wingers can't get Clint fired from anything but they are pretty much disrespecting him the same way GLAAD is disrespecting Roland. They see something they can use, they point fingers and make demands and the whole time they know not what the fuck they're talking about. Mountains out of mohills.

If you read that tweet timeline, no one ever bothered to ask Roland what he meant by his joke. Most actually got the joke and retweeted it several times. He's had joking exchanges with Pierce, with journalist Toure, with comedian Dave Chappelle and others and he ALWAYS talks shit when it comes to sports.

It seems as though he has been targeted and for longer than was apparent to me and now obviously for whatever his wife has been doing in her church or churches. Yep Pomade it is a conspiracy and more people are probably on the hit list. I say fuck CNN for being pussies cuz if any of their other contributors or full time staff had said the same thing on twitter, nothing would have happened.

CNN Suspends Roland Martin

CNN has apparently caved in to pressure from gay groups by suspending political analyst Roland Martin for making a joke about British soccer star David Beckham.

A CNN spokeswoman confirmed the suspension with this statement issued today:

“Roland Martin’s tweets were regrettable and offensive. Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated. We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland will not be appearing on our air for the time being.”

Martin came under attack from gay groups after tweeting a wisecrack about Beckham’s underwear commercial which aired during Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast on NBC.

Martin seemed to suggest in his tweet that his followers “smack the ish out of” any male Super Bowl fan who is “hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad.”

Martin added that “real bruhs” would not purchase underwear advertised by Beckham.

A network suspension is usually the first step towards a contract termination. Martin was a CNN political analyst for 4 years.

Roland did not mention any specific person nor their physical trait. He made fun of a commercial and its star being aired during one of the most respected and loved sporting events in American History. He spoke to HIS base and HIS fans.

The problem is a serious journalist or commentator has no business tweeting something like that. His Twitter handle is used in his CNN bylines, so his Twitter account is a direct extension of his public and professional image. Any sensible person using Twitter to promote himself knows that.

Context doesn't matter. It is stupid for someone holding himself out as a serious journo/talking head to tweet something like that on a public account. The fallout was inevitable. He's got no one but himself to blame.

I will give the twitter handle being used in his CNN bylines although so his TVONE if you follow him via that station but regardless of how you reach him, had he tweeted the same thing under the handle "@justRoland" GLAAD was still going to target him and its probably because of his wife's position. Roland has made similar tweets related to past sporting events and his firing was never called for by ANYONE.

Context always matter. Your interpretation of one's comment does not hold more merit than another's interpretation and certainly not more than the original intent and meaning.

Now there is a fallout over GLAAD demanding his firing. People are rallying behind Roland and showing support. Have you checked FB and Twitter lately? So if GLAAD catches heat then they have no one to blame but themselves right?

This whole thing is nonsense. Roland will be back on the airwaves before we know it. He is supposedly meeting with members of GLAAD. I got 5$ that says not a single black person will show up on their side. And yes, that is important since Roland , a hetero black dude, is being targeted for his lingo which GLAAD probably doesn't understand and possibly doesn't care about.

Roland has made similar tweets related to past sporting events and his firing was never called for by ANYONE.

What you say indicates 1) he's been saying stupid stuff for a while, and 2) he knew or should have known he was a target for his public comments. So it was just a matter of time. He wasn't talking about a sporting event, he was talking about slapping someone at a party watching a sporting event. Big difference.

Context always matter. Your interpretation of one's comment does not hold more merit than another's interpretation and certainly not more than the original intent and meaning.

Stupid is stupid. A journalist tweeting about "slapping the ish" out of someone for registering an opinion deserves to get called out for it. And you surely realize as a black journalist he's even more scrutinized. His tweet, regardless of context, reinforced stereotypes of black men, either way you slice it.

Now there is a fallout over GLAAD demanding his firing. People are rallying behind Roland and showing support. Have you checked FB and Twitter lately? So if GLAAD catches heat then they have no one to blame but themselves right?

If a man wants to be taken seriously, he should represent himself as such. Especially when he makes his opinions known to the world. If he doesn't, something like this is bound to happen. He put himself in this situation by forgetting himself and pressing "send." He's not an athlete, comedian or even a sports journalist. He wants to be a national figure, a serious commentator. Which comes with the burden of acting and communicating like one. You tell me whether his tweet fits that image. If you say that's not fair, welcome to reality. Sometimes it's hard.

This whole thing is nonsense. Roland will be back on the airwaves before we know it. He is supposedly meeting with members of GLAAD. He'll survive, but what you're saying is beside the point. You're making it black v. GLAAD. What I'm saying is we should expect those of us with public platforms who speak on the major issues of the day to be more careful when they tweet to the world at large. EVERY TWEET MATTERS when it comes to them. Roland Martin has important things to say and he shouldn't put himself in a position to be targeted over some offhand remark. He can't be caught slipping. You know that.
