For those of you who have memberships; what should I look for?

Clean locker rooms! biggrin

Good luck with that! All of the gyms I've ever been to have filthy locker rooms and showers. Even the higher-end ones. That's the thing I like least about gyms - the locker rooms!!!!ill ill ill

Well...my old gym was definitely on the dirty side...but my current one is clean (albeit sometimes stinks like armpit). The showers are also clean (the grout is white on the walls and floor).

^that's my point, a woman should not have to conform to a certain 'standard' of femininity. it's a kind of shame that a woman who has developed musculature is automatically seen as not 'feminine', when by definition of her gender, she is.

'femininity' circa 1950:

I wish like hell that i could post pics because i would post one of Lisa Lyons (Lions?)

She was the first BodyBuilding champion that made it big. She did not use steroids so unless she was posing, she did not look muscular. She was very shapely.

LOL you don't know how appropriate that picture is!

My comment was that in addition to the West Wing, Star Trek (next generation, at least) also has walking meetings

Actually I caught your comment before the edit, hence the choice of pic wink

Yeah. There was a time when I was so obsessive about it. Once you start noticing how ripped you start getting you want more and more. I remember going on a girls nite once and all I would get was water cuz I didn't wanna fuck up my abs. My friend was like W.T.F. your no fun anymore.

I could never be like that now. I enjoy food and drink too much. Hell sometimes food is all I have to look foward to in the course of a day. falloff

Yeah, there's definitely a point where the cost of being in shape becomes too great. I have a target weight that I'm aiming for and once I get down to it I'll loosen up my workout regimen, because the way I eat (or rather don't eat) at the moment is not conducive to happiness. Maybe it will mean that I'll bounce back up a bit weightwise, but I figure that if I don't do it too abruptly I can remain around or just above my target weight for a while. There has to be fun in life too!

It sounds to me like you're much more active than most. Walking meetings? I thought they only did that on The West Wing!

I wish I was able to get up early in the morning and do exercise like you do, but my body simply isn't ready for it. I would get nauseous if I even tried it for 5 min. The ideal time for me is in mid or late afternoon, when the old choo-choo train I call my body has creaked its way out of the station.

Ha!

Yes, we actually have walking meetings. There is a skyway system in Minneapolis that connects buildings a level above the street, so in the cold of winter you can get around without going outside. If I’m meeting with just one or two other people and I know we don’t need to look at a laptop screen or take notes I suggest going for a walk while we chat instead.

Or you might catch someone you want to chat with as they’re leaving for a coffee run or something and you tag along to get 2 things done at once.

Thanks for saying I already sound active. I feel like a couch potato most of the time. And I haven’t started the early morning workouts yet. I’ve been thinking about it, but I’m gonna start next week – I’m resolved.

I’ll probably start with 10 minutes a day the first day and add 10 minutes each week till I’m doing 30-40. That way I can slowly get used to getting up earlier.

Oh, you're active for sure. Most people never go to the gym at all so you definitely don't have to worry about not doing enough.

We have a few tunnels and walkways similar to your skyway tunnels, and when it's cold it's of course nice to be able to stay indoors but on the other hand it feels weird to sometimes go through a whole day without breathing fresh air. The climate is slowly turning us into Mole Men. lol

alas we should have done away with this stereotype YEARS ago.

women can be, and are, feminine when they are also muscular.

true, the woman below does not look like barbie. in fact she does not look like ANY of hefner's babes. and yet, she is still feminine, by definition if not by the measure of an outdated stereotype.

surprisingly I'm (slowly) developing a romantic relationship (or that's what it looks to me) with a lady who loves to go to the gym, so I'm there almost every evening

anyway, during 2011 I tried to go the gym every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday...

For the most part, I think that muscles on women in moderation can be really hot, but taken to the extreme it's gross (like anything else).

Fitness athletes have muscles, and you can't deny they're 100% women;

This has been a strangely wonderful yet ....strange year.

I currently run a pub quiz night at a local irish Pub here--it's good money, and lots of fun. We're still in 'tryout' mode, so it may not be permenant.

I've started a company that isn't currently generating cash. lol, but I am working on that.

I ran 4 miles for the first time in FOREVER just tonight.

I VERY casually seeing someone half my age, and loving it.....in spurts.

Same here, as a borderline germaphobe who has heard a LOT of disgusting stories about gym locker rooms and showers I have always avoided them. I go to the gym either right after work or on the weekend, and when I'm done I immediately go home to shower. I also change into my workout clothes BEFORE I get to the gym, so there's no need to even enter the locker room.

she'd definitely super muscular, but the photo is taken in a way that the shadows accentuate her stomach muscles. I doubt they look so prominent in normal light.

In other words, I'd do her (she'd be happy to know)

Actually, most of the photos are photoshopped or taken from a distance to hide

the masuclinization of their features due their workout regimen.

Here's a close up of one of those models.

as you can see, she's a bit masculine.
