The way they killed off Dax on Star Trek: Deep Space 9 showed how much the writers hated the actress for leaving the show.

Not a TV series, but a movie franchise.

Alien 3: The death of Hicks and Nute.

The first Alien scared the piss out of my because the biggest star (Tom Scaret (sp?)) was killed off before the movie was half way over. You were also lead to believe during the first half of the movie that he was the protagonist---Ripley was followed as wel, but you don't sense her taking charge until his death.

But with Alien 3, I was dumbfounded by the start of the movie. After Cameron had created all those endearing characters and weaved the emotional bonds between the survivors, Fox churns out a sloppy script in which Nute and Hicks are killed off? I mean, really?

And they rub it in your face too. Not only are they killed off, you're forced to sit and watch an autopsy scene with Nute (The little 11 year old girl) being disceted like a slab of meat. I heard the original disection scene was more gruesome and grotesque too.

It was a bitter pill to swallow mainly because you had to say goodbye to two characters who had been through so much in the previous film, and they had given Ripley a sort of anchor to find her strength---all of that is lost in the first 5 minutes of Alien 3, and you're left with Ripley and a bunch of lookalike double-Y chromosome murderers and rapists to root for. confused

You know, many are stunned by that in Alien 3. But maybe i'm just a dark bastard lol but i love Alien 3 for the dark movie it is. The look, atmosphere, music, ending. It's all so tragic....

And the directors cut is way better to! also showing the more gruesome autopsy.

Probably for me it'd be Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives.

But thank god the mysterious stranger John Black turned out to be Roman afterall, he had simply gotten cosmetic surgery, and he and Marlena could be together again!

Then thank god Roman really was John Black afterall and that Roman himself had survived and returned to Salem, and that he & Marlena could be together again!

And thank god when Roman was killed again that John Black was still around so that he & Marlena could be together again!!

Yeah, the directors cut went a long way towards making the film better.

I love the atmosphere, the feel, and the look of the characters.

However, I need to care about what is happening in the movie, and in A3, I didn't give a

rats ass about anything.

Shit, half way through the film you learn she has one, so it becomes a suicide mission.

They should have made it a tragic redemption story, focused more on Sigourney's

tremendous acting abilities to pull the story off---Just 10 0r 15 extra minutes focused

on Ripley alone and her emotional ups and downs would have made a huge difference.

It would have made the audience care. We cared about A2 because of the emtional link

Nute provided for Ripley and her maternal instincts (and memories of her daughter).

We could care more if go through anguish, and rejection, and self-doubt, only

to come out of all it more determined than ever to have some....any control over

her destiny and that of what she percieves as mankind. It would have been the

ultimate redemption story, and the little alien running around knocking everybody

off would have become more of a symbol for us to root against. Instead,

in A3, I found some of the death scenes humerous---that's not good. lol

Overall though, I see your points. And I have grown fond of the movie because

of its atmosphere. Fincher visually pulls you right into almost every scene. But,

like a Terrintino film, the parts are often stronger than the sum of them.

George on Grey's Anatomy.

I can't imagine a character death ever being more shocking in any tv or movie. The way they did it and being he was easily the most loved character on the show.

I was FUMING at the writers for weeks after the show was over. Even if you knew the actor was leaving the show, they had written his character to leave to be a field doctor in the army.

I cried and cried and cried and cried and vowed never to watch the show again. How could anyone be so cruel as to kill off George??????

But I still watch it. boxed lol

That was the first one that came to mind, granted it's relatively fresh for me. That was soooo cold. I don't know all the backstory but it was obvious something was up.

What did you think of Alien: Ressurection?

It is in the same vein as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Cyrstal Skull--a Hollywood popcorn thriller through-and-through.

It's like 20Ten, you know? At a quick glance/listen it has enough bells and whistles for you to take note and recognize it. But upon closer srutiny it appears empty. And, ultimately it reminds you of better times wth better material.

The solution to making a good alien movie is not to just keep throwing in new surprise version fo the creature ( the queen in 2, the dog-alien in 3, and the big-pussy mayonaise covered hog-nose thing in 4), but to actually solve and answer some questions the first movie posed. And, this....is....why....I'm actually anticipating Prometheus.

It pissed me off that Alien Resurrection was not more scary. They had the budget and the CGI, and the rating for it.

Of course, it's still better than the AVP movies. lol

If ever they reboot the franchise, I hope the return to Alien 3 and rethink the story.

Since folks are stretching this out to deaths in a movie, then I'll go ahead and say that Apollo Creed's death in Rocky IV was cruel and unnecessary. Till this day I would love to ask Sly what the hell he was thinking writing that damn script (even though Sly looked sexy as hell in that installment of Rocky drool). pout

For me it was shocking because he was one of main characters and original cast members of the show, so for them to have him die off was a shock for me. The way he died wasn't so much a shock, just the decision for him to go, or perhaps he left the show, I'm not sure.

For me, the series 24 was rife with shocking deaths of characters. In the first season, Jack Bauer's wife is murdered by one of his CTU associates who was assigned to protect her. In the third season, Jack Bauer is forced to kill his boss, who was the district director of CTU, in a sting operation, and in season five CTU associate Edgar Stiles is killed in a nerve gas attack on CTU. What made that really sad was the fact that he and Chloe O'Brian were close friends who had a huge bit of sexual tension going on betwen them, and it appeared that they were about to unload their passion at any moment and fuck each other like a bunch of wild beasts, excited horny boff but it was never to be. broken faint dead

And the other thing that sort of shocked me was they way the producers dealt with the absence of Charlie Sheen's character on Two and a Half Men. Now I know about all the whole circus regarding Charlie Sheen last year, but it seems as though the producers were being rather spiteful in killing off his character, making it quite obvious that Charlie Sheen would never be allowed on the set again.

omg omfg shocked sad tv typing
