Anyone have any opinions on which one of these units is better?

The Xoom is a sexy model, however Xoom2 is already out...not that much faster but a lot lighter and thinner.

You know what you're getting with an Apple, however, your locked into their products....that's why I've got an Xoom2...possibly one of the best Anroid Pads on the market.

Go with the Xoom. It's a lot of bang for your buck for less than what the iPad costs. Plus, it's got expandable storage, making it almost infinite (if you keep buying large memory cards).

Fuck all that overpriced useless shit(and yes i can easily afford one).

The Xoom 2 is dope! Also there's the Xoom 2 Media Edition which is slightly smaller. I think 8" compared to 10".

Personally I'm after the ASUS Transformer Prime

But if I can't get one of those, I may also try and get a Xoom 2.

btw, they changed the name of the XOOM2 in the US. Over there it's called the Droid XYBOARD apparently. Yeah, dumb name, I know. lol.

I still don't understand the need for tablet PCs. I guess I just need to play with them more to see why I would need one. I don't think it's that much more portable than an ultra-thin is it? I mean, you can't fit an iPad in your pocket or anything.

I'm just shocked at how Apple, yet again, spawns an race for what was originally seen as a niche market others failed to break into, but now seen as a complimentary addition to how we 'plug-in'. Those following Apple's lead are even benfiting.

I personally have played with iPads and thought they were a fun, but can never figure out how I would use them. Of course with the new rumored thinner design and retina display forthcoming I might just buy one for the 'cool' factor, but I fear buyers remorse.

I'm sure I'll break down eventually, but I'm holding out for intel's 2013 chip releases--the rumored energy/speed numbers boggle my mind.

^^^I was on a plane with my laptpop, and could not help but remember my friend saying he could not travel without his iPad anymore.

My seat in the plane was literally too small for me to watch a movie on my laptop comfortably. And I really did not need a keyboard, all I needed was a screen to zone out on.

So I don't think it's necessary, but I do see the advantages. I think it is still a niche thing though.

That's exactly the purpose of the tablet devices; to use as a portable internet/entertainment device when you're not at a PC or laptop. Tablets are perfect for surfing the web, checking email, storing and watching your pictures and movies, and playing games. They're also excellent e-readers, as you can read with a Kindle or Nook app, or you can read PDF books on them. But if you needed to do serious work, I'd recommend investing in a decent laptop.

BTW, I typed this response on my HP Touchpad I got for $99 last summer, but if you want a really good iPad alternative, I suggest getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10 series.

Yeah, this just wouldn't be me.

I don't watch movies, but rarely.

If I'm away from my laptop,

I'd want to use an iPhone

instead of an iPad in most cases.

Of course, I do have a e-ink ebook

reader that I take everywhere,

but that's strictly to read books,

which I do all the time.

So, I guess if you're into watching

media or surfing when away from

your PC or laptop, it would make sense.

I have a great laptop and I already have a Nook Color tablet which I mostly use as an e-reader. But I find myself wanting a 10" tablet as well.. more so for media consumption on the go, I guess.

Which Touchpad did you get, the 16GB or the 32GB? I bought my TP around the same time, but I opted for the 16GB, which was a big mistake. Definitely should've gotten the 32GB. My thought process was that I thought I'd be able easily stream stuff from my two NAS drives on it. Nope. I have to copy any files I want to view onto it, and that can very quickly eat up the 12.7GB of usable storage space. My Xoom should be coming soon though, and I'm not making that same mistake again!

How many, if any, apps have you purchased for it? I haven't been too impressed with their app catalog. Of course, what did I expect with a dying tablet and OS. But, I did purchase the comic reader and the Splashtop Remote software. I mainly use the TP for reading comics, email, a few songs here and there, and some VERY light web browsing. I think I'd get a little more use out of it if I had something the manufacture would get behind and support, like the iPad, Galaxy, or Xoom.

Iphone is too small to watch movies on, i need an ipad

I bought the iPad really not knowing what I was going to use it for, now I can't live without it.

The biggest advantages of an iPad for me are, buying books, reading newpapers, watching movies, (accessing my cable subscription anywhere in the World) and recording music/apps. Last year when my late aunt was ill one of the things she missed was going to the movies every Monday. Comcast has a deal were you can rent the movies playing at theatres on' On Demand'; she would pick a movie and I connect my iPad to the TV. I made a mistake when I didn't purchase the largest iPad, I'll correct that when they come out the 3.
