Is my neighbor hustling?

The person in my building upstairs directly above me walks around with a cane and says she's suffering from a few different illnesses, etc. She gets disability and basically stays at home all day and smokes and watches TV. I smell the smoke and hear the TV through my walls. Anyway, one thing I don't understand is that when I see her out in the street, she always seems to struggle walking, seems like she's in pain, etc. But, here in the building, I hear her walking around upstairs and it sounds like she's walking around back and forth with no problem! One time, there was a maintenance issue in my unit and she came downstairs and into my unit. As soon as I opened the door, she very easily walked around, no cane and didn't miss a beat! WTF!

Am I missing something? She lives alone and sometimes has her sister visit but I work from home and I'm hear a lot and know her routine pretty well. I'm starting to think this lady is possibly scamming for a disability check. Not sure, but I'm not gonna report it or anything.

I just wonder what you guys think? I'm really sick of hearing her stomp around all freakin' day above my head (I wanted to move to the top floor but the units are all taken).

I have arthritis in both hips and my spine. Some days I walk with a cane, others I am perfectly fine without it.

1. Give your neighbor the benefit of the doubt.

2. Mind your own business.

Why do you stalk me on these threads so much with your venom?

As I said, I asked what you guys thought because sometimes it will be the same DAY I will see her walking around outside like she's in all this awful pain and then upstairs it sounds like she's running circles around her place.

So, why don't you give ME the benefit of the doubt of not being a horrible person and if you think I'm so horrible, go to another thread and bug someone else smile

Ok, that's all I'm going to say about that smile

Stalk you? Please. You're not worth it.

The truth of the matter is you don't know what this lady is going through and if you can't see through walls, you don't know if she's walking in pain or not.

And i never said you were a horrible person. If i thought so, I'd ignore your every posts. As someone who does walk with pain, I'm giving you the facts.

Yeah I guess that's why I'm confused because it seems like she's the type who is scamming though, not because of the off/on nature of her walking around but it's just her personality in general. She is a total drain on her sister who checks in on her at times but I dunno. She has a very like IDGAF attitude towards her sister who takes care of her and seems to drain her of her energy, it's kinda hard to explain.

I totally agree! That's why I asked the question here because I don't want to feel like I'm judging her. You're totally right

So it's great that neither one of you are judging me now here and I appreciate that, thanks!

She could be faking but you can never really tell just from sounds because they can be misleading at times. She could be moving furniture to clean behind it or something. The sounds could be numerous things. You never really know just from sound.

I know I heard my neighbors through the wall talking outside on the sidewalk. I heard the word "snake" and a few moments later I heard the phrase "came up through the toilet". I was paranoid as hell for days deathly afraid that a snake might come up through my toilet. Finally, to ease my mind, I told the neighbor that I overheard them talking outside while I was changing clothes and asked her what happened. She said one of the tenants came home and found a snake laying in front of his front door. It was 100 degree weather outside and apparantly the snake was laying there so he could feel the AC coming from underneath the door. As for the "coming up through the toilet" part, she said she was telling her neighbor about the time a snake came out of the toilet back when she used to live in the country. See, you just never know fully unless you're right there firsthand.

No,I'm not judging you. I am merely pointing out that if you were to be judged, not knowing all the information about why you asked said question in the first place, could lead to wrongful judgment. Just as judging someone who lives above you without knowing all the information.

Judgements based on appearances should be viewed as speculation and not fact. So judgement based on appearances should not carry much merit.

My dad had multiple sclerosis and for many years he was in much better condition on some days than on others. I agree about the benefit of the doubt.

Damn, what part of "what do you guys think?" did you all seem to just blow over? I asked precisely for this reason because I didn't want to feel like I was judging....

Now, if you'll excuse me I'll go back to the Music thread and read post number #@424324324323 about whether or not Prince is gay, LOL.....Seven pages of comments JUDGING Prince's sexuality, LOLOLOOL

Yep. Someone can be sick but can appear or sound to be perfectly fine. Years ago I called in sick and my manager at the time accused me of lying because I didn't "sound sick" over the phone. I told her "Hell, I've got a hemorroid. It's my asshole that's hurting, not my throat". lol

I think they got the "what do you guys think?" part. I don't think YOU got the "this is what they think" part.

Oh, and I agree that you should mind your own business.

Not only do your walls detect the absolute source of sounds, they also provide a full detail of the relationships of people within earshot of said walls.

Not to say she is or isn't, but if she is, that's something disability will deal with, and they do have ways of finding out nod Seen a program like this about people being busted for fraud.

Are you serious right now? She gave you a perfectly good answer to your question. You assumed that just because your neighbor walked with a cane some days and walked fine w/o while at home that she must be faking it. Vendetta gave you a valid reason as to why your assumption is most likely incorrect. The fact that you were assuming these things and then almost proven wrong by someone else means you actually should mind your business. That's not venom, it's good advice.

Serious didn't blow over anything, she just answered your question "what do you guys think?" by answering she agrees about giving your neighbor "the benefit of the doubt" based on personal experience she has knowing someone with a condition that allows them to walk fine on some days, and not so well on others. Same thing with Vendetta hmm

Seriously though, when I was 18 I got hit by a car-a 16 yr old was driving neutral my left leg always gives me problems because of that. Some days I can barely walk on it sad I really need a hip replacement, but being a nurse and knowing how these things go I'm trying to deal with it on my own. I think it's unfair to judge by a few footsteps heard from downstairs. Observe more when you see her out walking around and you will pick up on the truth quickly.
